Following the conclusion of its Open Ears Forum in India, OnePlus made half a dozen new promises pertaining to its products. All six guarantees relate to OxygenOS, the Android-based operating system running on OnePlus devices sold outside of China, and all are expected to affect users on a global level, not just those India.
Due to significant requests, the Shenzhen, Guangdong-based original equipment manufacturer will be bringing the Selfie Portrait Mode from the OnePlus 6 to its 2017 devices – the OnePlus 5 and 5T. The so-called “oil painting effect” troubling the default Camera app of its latest device has already been addressed to a degree but the firm is aware of the fact that it still causes issues in certain scenarios, having hence promised to continue working on eliminating it in its entirety, though details on its plans for doing so remain scarce. The Shelf service that’s located to the left of the OxygenOS home screen and is meant to house Android widgets will also receive support for a night mode which OnePlus is referring to as the “Dark Theme.” The same theme will also offer customizable accent colors, according to the Chinese OEM.
The fifth promise from the company pertains to its OnePlus Switch app for cloning smartphones with the goal of transitioning to a new handset in a convenient manner. The backup capabilities of the mobile tool will soon be expanded to encompass more files, with the app itself also being set to receive support for desktop backups, OnePlus said. Finally, the FileDash app for fast data transfers between smartphones will receive support for other first-party services, i.e. apps made by OnePlus. As some of the company’s users claimed FileDash isn’t easily discoverable during the Open Ears Forum, the firm also vowed to work on making it more straightforward to launch. No specific timeline has yet been attached to any one of these promises from OnePlus.
