Right on schedule, the OnePlus One has officially launched in India today and can be bought through Amazon.in. Providing, of course, that you have one of those pesky invites.
The 64GB OnePlus One is priced at Rs. 21,999 and comes in Sandstone Black. Interestingly, the 16GB Silk White version of the smartphone will not be made available in India. It is also worth noting that the Indian version of the OnePlus One won’t receive any support for future CyanongenMod updates, despite shipping with the modified Android OS. Instead, you will need to flash another ROM, such as the upcoming OnePlus ROM, in order to keep your software up to date.
Amazon and OnePlus have integrated their account services to make it simple for those with invites to purchase their smartphone. If you are still trying to get hold of an invite, Amazon and OnePlus are currently running a couple of contests to help you grab one. The first method to win one of 4,000 invites runs until December 15th and involves simply connecting your Facebook account up to Amazon India. The second contest will award 500 invites to random forum members who fill out a form, but this competition is only running until the end of today.
The partnership between the two companies also extends to a few of OnePlus’ limited accessories. Amazon is selling the Flip Cover, Bamboo StyleSwap Cover, and Silver Bullet Earphones. The screen protector, protective case, clear case, and JBL E1+ earphone stock will arrive in the near future.
India is OnePlus’ first major regional focus since the smartphone’s launch back in April. The company has put dedicated infrastructure in place to support Indian consumers and sales in the longer term, including walk-in and phone support for customers. Rival upstart smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi also has big plans to tap into India’s bulging smartphone market.
India marks a substantial investment for the growing smartphone company, hopefully OnePlus has learnt from some of its past mistakes.
