OnePlus has promised to deliver its Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade for the OnePlus X next week. The Chinese firm also promises it is “actively working on” bringing Android 7.0 Nougat to the OnePlus 3, but still has no launch date for its release just yet.
The OnePlus X looked like a terrific midrange smartphone when it make its debut last October, combining premium design and a terrific AMOLED display with capable specifications and expandable storage. But fans feel like the device has been neglected somewhat.
Almost a year after Marshmallow made its public debut, OnePlus X owners are still waiting to get it. The good news is that OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei has now confirmed on Reddit that the update will be available to download over-the-air next week.
The bad news (if you didn’t already know) is that Marshmallow will be the last major update for the OnePlus X. Unfortunately, the handset’s aging Snapdragon 801 chipset uses graphics drivers that are not compatible with Nougat, so it won’t receive Google’s latest OS.
The OnePlus 3 will, however, and OnePlus has confirmed that it is “already actively working on it.” It adds that it “cannot share a timeline right now,” so it’s still a complete mystery when the update will be available — but at least we know it’s in production.
