This brand new spontaneous travel app has just landed a $2.5 million investment to spread the travel bug even further
The way we book our vacations has changed rapidly in the last 10 years - heck, even in the last 5 years. No longer do we rely on tour operators to spoon-feed us package holidays, with rigid choices of what day we can leave, where we should stay, and what excursions we can go on while we're there.
A brand new startup that combines the sharing aspect of Airbnb and the last-minute booking of Hotel Tonight is looking to shake things up even more. Overnight is the brand new app that lets people book same-day spaces with local hosts - and it's just announced that it's managed to bag another $2.5 million investment to help take their spontaneous travel project to the next level.
“We’re spending every ounce of our energy solving the problem of same-day stays. We think if we nail it, we create a step-function change in the frequency in which people travel, and also host,” said Overnight CEO, Asher Hunt.
With the Overnight app, travelers select the area they’re going and then broadcast a request for a place to lay their head for the night. Hosts can review their potential guest’s profile - which includes authentication via Facebook - and then respond if they want to put them up for the night. Guests then have the option to browse through the various hosts that have agreed to host them and book instantly.
Overnight encourages spontaneity, so if you happen to catch the travel bug and don’t care where it takes you, you shouldn’t have to worry about paying for expensive hotels.
The app, which is currently available for iOS, has already connected over 750 travelers and has a host network of “hundreds”. And we're excited to see it grow and try it out for ourselves, especially since the company has hinted that the commissions it charges its hosts is much less than Airbnb!
If you're up for giving it a go, remember to use the promo code 'APPSTORE' when booking to bag $25 off your first booking!
