We don’t talk about Pandora (Android, iOS) enough here at Appszoom. Spotify might seem more popular, but it’s a not-well-publicized fact that Pandora actually has more listeners. About 20 million more. The ability to meticulously customize radio stations has certainly kept me faithful to this silent, jamming, giant.
But with release of Apple Music this past summer and Google Play Music introducing its Family Plan, Pandora needed to make some big noise.
To that end, they've just announced their new Thumbprint Radio, a personalized station featuring every single song you’ve ever given the “thumbs up” .
Remember 10 years ago when you couldn't get enough of “Hit Me Baby One More Time” on your NSYNC radio? Your chickens are about to come home to roost.
With Thumbprint Radio, Pandora will take all the songs you’ve ever liked and create a super-duper personalized radio station, curated along with songs similar to your favorites. And don’t worry, somehow the wizards at Pandora have figured out how to seamlessly transition you from Electronica to Klezmer without your ear buds going in to shock.
Share your new radio station with your friends, and once they start liking/disliking, it becomes a personalized radio station of your personalized radio station. Mind. Blown. The best news is that this station doesn't count against Pandora's 100-station limit.
This is all comes as part of Pandora’s recent efforts to increase reach - and its pocketbook. Not only will it be streaming the second series of the widely popular podcast Serial, but it's just released an app for Apple TV too. Pandora, everywhere.
