The Pantech Vega phablet will likely have a 5.9-inch screen, 13-megapixel camera and more
Love your phablets? You're in luck because Pantech will reportedly reveal a device called the Vega, and this Android superphone will sport a massive 6-inch display.
Well actually, Unwired View said it will have a 5.9-inch, 1080p HD display, which should be world-class. Along with that large, high-quality screen, you can expect a 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor, 13-megapixel camera, 4G LTE and all the other goodies you'd expect from a device of this class (NFC, GPS, Wi-Fi, etc.)
The report suggests that the Vega will have "extremely narrow bezels," which could make it easy to hold with one hand, but I surely hope that Pantech will do some tweaks to the Android software. Standard Android just isn't built properly to operate on that size of a device without some intelligent features like we've seen on the large-screen Galaxy Note 2.
As I noticed at CES 2013, phablets are here to stay. I was skeptical about how well received these larger phones would be but it's clear that there's a market for this class of smartphone. Let's just hope that companies aren't simply slapping on a large screen and thinking their job is done because a phablet can definitely be done wrong.
The Pantech Vega will likely be revealed at the Mobile World Congress trade show in late February. You can be sure that Know Your Cell will be there to give you the latest.
