I love playing computer games and have for years. A couple of my first games were Wolfenstein and Duke Nukem back in the early 1990′s. There is one game though that stands above all the rest and one that really changed how I played games. The game was Panzer General. It is a World War II, turn based, hexagonal, strategy game for the PC. It is this game that started my love of turn based strategy game and in some ways the game that all others have been judged in my mind.
There are a lot of great turn based strategy games for Android and iOS and I have tried many of them. When I first got into mobile gaming, I looked for game(s) similar to Panzer General but could not find any. Well the wait it over. I am excellent to report that Slitherine with Flashback Games Studio & The Lordz Games Studio has produced Panzer Corps. This is the game that I have been longing for years. You need to get this game is if you ever played Panzer General, enjoy WWII based games, and want a quality and content packed turn based strategy game.
Key Features of Panzer Corps:
Play campaigns or individual scenarios
Purchase 12 different campaigns
800 unit types, divided into 19 unit classes
17 terrain types
Depending on the outcome of each battle (decisive victory, marginal victory or defeat), the player will be faced with different challenges and progress
All major and many minor nations are represented: Germany, Italy, Poland, France, Great Britain, USA, USSR, Norway, Belgium, Netherlands, Albania, Romania, Greece
The game is great. Yes it is $20 USD but you get so much for that. If you want to invest you can get all campaigns for around $60 USD. When you first turn it on, you will go through a tutorial which will show you the basics of the game. If you do not have time to finish a mission, you can save your progress at any point. For those wanting more information, there is an extensive library with images and information on the different units. The game manual is a link to an online pdf. Also for those new to the game, the game will show what each unit can do during its turn so you can make a wise decision.
When you play a scenario, you can also set the difficulty, which side (Axis or Allies) you want to play, and turn on/off fog of war, weather, supply, and most importantly the undo button. You can easily pinch to zoom and scroll around the map. The game interface is nicely done and does not take up too much space on the screen. Everything just works for the game. The developers have done an excellent job bring a great PC game to the iPad.
I definitely can recommend this game. If you are needing more information, please see Sliterane’s website or watch the videos below. This is one of the best war games available for the iPad.
