Storytelling has been reborn on iOS as the platform merges moving images, and audio with classic text, and touch based interactive features. There are so many great new storybooks for iOS including The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore, the Moving Tales series, StoryToys 3D Pop-Up books, Byooks, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: The Interactive eBook, Oceanhouse Media’s Dr. Seuss books, and TouchPresses works. Paper Fox builds upon the same idea to deliver a brand new story experience to get children, and adults engaged in just good ol’ fashion storytelling with a brand new twist. There’s an adventure afoot in Paper Fox as you need to help the woodland creatures figure out the source of constant earthquakes that are hurting all of the other animals as well.
As soon as you first see Paper Fox, you know you’re in for a treat with a visual style that is truly remarkable. The app provides a superb 3D engine with every single object designed as a full figured origami or paper craft style composition. Whether it’s the fox, hedgehog, owl, trees, rocks, clouds, or any object on screen they’re all ornately designed with such a unique paper style. The best part is that you get to see the paper world come to life on your iOS device, and the animations are great to take the story to the next level.
Speaking of the story, it’s surprisingly engaging with a moralistic tone regarding a know it all fox, that explores the world around him for the first time, and learns how little he actually knows. He partakes in an adventure to save his home, and along the way encounters all kinds of intriguing characters that don’t fit into particular molds. The app features a non-linear story allowing you to bounce around the map at your own choosing as you try to help the fox collect special objects in each region of the map. There are also mini-games at the end of each chapter which are in essence quick hidden object challenges to help pace the story. The app is made for children, but anyone can enjoy all that’s included, though it does have limited shelf life since you make it through the story for the first time.
Paper Fox (Free, Universal) shines on iOS, and makes the devices equally sparkle. It’s such a great journey for Paper Fox to join along with and learn the moral of the story while appreciating each, and every amazingly crafted scene. Paper Fox includes a one-time $2.99 in-app purchase to unlock the full story after the first two chapters, and it’s well worth that price for the enjoyment it will deliver.
