Not your standard space-based story by any stretch of the imagination, but rather the strange tale of our own little moon who – yes, it is a who – goes on a galactic gallivant, catches a cosmic cold and ends up having to sneeze its way back to Earth and away from the chasing claws of the Crab Nebula. Yep, welcome to Paper Galaxy…
Designed by the fine minds at Pasadena-based Liquid Ents as some side-project sharp relief from working on nothing but licenced Dungeons and Dragons games, Paper Galaxy’s development underwent the stringent ‘developer dad and kids’ team testing from day one, resulting in Liquid’s first independent game and an original app that’s truly for all the family.
Colourful and hugely creative, the paper-craft galaxy in which Luna (the moon) inhabits is both stylish and charming, and the play premise simultaneously simple and utterly addictive as you sneeze your way from celestial body to celestial body, collecting stars to trade later for upgrades, dodging the overly warm reception from certain suns and the game-ending event horizon of blackholes, all whilst using your olfactory ejections to outrun the ever on-coming enemy nebula.
One-touch controls combined with smooth, precise gameplay and fast action make Paper Galaxy a pleasure to play, whilst the basic physics used keeps you on your finger-tapping toes constantly.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Well-conceived, well designed and well worth the cost of download, Paper Galaxy is a joy to play for kids of all ages from 3 to, erm, 83, if they still have any reactions left. As the first independent release from Rico Sablan and the team at Liquid Entertainment, it’s an out-and-out winner and we look forward to seeing what else they have in store for us in the future.
