I’ll say this for Paper Mario: Color Splash: the game looks gorgeous. After Sticker Star and the recent Paper Jam outing, I’ve personally been pretty fatigued by Nintendo’s take on the RPG formula. The excessive tutelage and pacing has made this series less than stellar.
Will Paper Mario: Color Splash right the ship? Maybe. The trailer above does a good job selling things.
This Wii U effort boasts a gorgeous art style, unique paint-and-cut gameplay and a card-based painting battle system. I’ve always enjoyed the timing concept in the Mario RPG battle systems, so the battle footage here actually looks really good in my mind, especially the Thing Cards.
Paper Mario: Color Splash will release on the Wii U on October 7, 2016. We’ll have more on the game as it comes.
