Nintendo has traditionally shied away from the mobile app market. Back in August we heard it was all about to change as the first Pokémon related game would be released on mobile devices.
Unlike traditional Pokémon titles you don’t choose a particular Pokémon and begin to explore the world. This is the launch of the Pokémon Trading Card Game Online, it’s like the physical card game but this time online.
The app was announced in conjunction with the Pokémon World Championship, where players from all around the globe join to play the physical card game.
You can now download the app for free from the Apple App Store. To play you’ll need an iPad with a Retina display such as the iPad mini, iPad 3 or iPad Air. You’ll also need to be running iOS 7.0 or higher to operate the game.
To kick things off you need to choose between Grass, Fire or Water decks. From there the player earns extra cards, you can gain booster packs or you can trade with other players over the internet.
There are three game modes, you can either play against the computer, against other players online, or even compete in full-blown tournaments over the internet. Avatars are also fully customisable.
The Pokémon Trading Card Game Online was already available for Mac and Windows but this is the first time the game has been made available on mobile devices.
Nintendo haven’t revealed whether the game will be eventually available on Android devices.
