The chilling hit TV series Hannibal, which explores the early relationships between Red Dragon / Silence of the Lambs characters Hannibal Lecter, Will Graham and Jack Crawford returns for its third season on June 4, and seasons 1 and 2 are currently available in the Prime Instant Video catalog.
Crime story fans who are new to this brilliant, star-studded series (featuring Mads Mikkelson, Hugh Dancy, Laurence Fishburne and Gillian Anderson) now have time to watch seasons one and two before season 3 bows, and those who were loyal viewers may want to take this opportunity to refresh their memory of the series as well since the last episode of season 2 aired nearly a year ago.
Best of all, those who are Prime members can enjoy all 26 of the first two seasons’ episodes free of charge and free of commercial interruptions. For a tense psychological thriller like this, being able to watch episodes back to back and without commercial breaks really adds to the overall experience. From IMDB (spoiler omitted):
Jack Crawford, head of the Behavioral Science Unit of the FBI, seeks out special investigator Will Graham to help solve various murder cases across the Maryland area. Graham has a special ability to assume the point of view of a killer, as well as empathize with them. This ability, while it saves lives, has a haunting affect on Graham. In some cases, Graham’s fearful mind can lead to distortion of reality. Jack assigns a psychiatrist to Will Graham to help him cope with the work he does.
The psychiatrist: Dr. Hannibal Lecter. Known to his colleagues as a brilliant mind and praised doctor [is brought in to consult on the Chesapeake Ripper case]. As Jack, Will, and Hannibal develop a friendship, Hannibal uses his position to not only play dangerous games with the FBI, but break down Will’s mental state. The question is… Why?
The series begins a prequel to Red Dragon, but will later shift as a retelling of the complete Hannibal Lecter story.
Note that though this show airs on NBC, it’s a very dark and sometimes graphic crime series that’s intended for adult viewing only.
