Lucid Games’ critically-acclaimed arcade-style shooter, Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Evolved, launched on Google Play this summer to rave reviews. Now it’s available on all three generations of NVIDIA SHIELD: SHIELD Android TV, SHIELD Tablet and SHIELD Portable.
In Dimensions Evolved, your mission is to simultaneously avoid and destroy wave after wave of enemy attackers in order to rack up the highest score possible. The longer you survive the more relentless the onslaught you face. Dimensions Evolved has a whole host of features and gameplay modes that alter and enhance that basic concept making it endlessly playable, challenging and exciting.
As you play through the game’s main campaign defeating the various boss levels you will unlock a series of Drones that assist you in defeating enemies. The Drones are called Attack, Collect, Ram, Snipe, Defend and Sweep. The Collect drone, for example, gathers any point multipliers (called Geoms) that would otherwise be out of your reach, and the Snipe Drone takes out enemies from a distance. You can also obtain five Supers, which, as the name suggests, are super abilities and include homing missiles, mines and automatic turrets.
Beyond the game’s main adventure mode there are a host of other rewarding modes on tap that mix up your objectives. Pacifism, for example, sees you rendered weaponless and you have to successfully pass through a series of gates to stop the enemy onslaught. In Deadline you have to score as many points as possible before the time runs out. Even purists are catered for in Hardcore mode, which removes Drones and Supers in a straight up survival and point collecting exercise. There are a staggering 12 different gameplay modes on offer here. Add to that in excess of 100 playable levels, 15 different 3D environments, and multiplayer options and you have one of the most robustly featured shooters out there.
If you’re completely new to the addictively challenging world of Geometry Wars, what is most likely to blow you away is the game’s signature and utterly spectacular vector-based visuals and thumping soundtrack. Dimensions Evolved is not only an enormously challenging game, but it’s a glorious assault on the senses, and it looks and plays great on SHIELD.
