If you’ve purchased an application from your PlayBook/BlackBerry recently that is compatible for both device and tablet using the same product ID, chances are you’ve seen this error once or twice.
You go to install an app to your BlackBerry that you’ve either purchased previously on another BlackBerry model, BlackBerry tablet or on the last operating system you downloaded to your smartphone and instead of getting your app back App World gives you an impossible error: Error ID: 30220.
What happens from here? Honestly as far as I can tell nothing. You don’t get to install the app. I first started noticing it with applications purchased via App World on my PlayBook a couple months ago, post BlackBerry App World v3.0. I went through the typical solutions, clearing the cache, deleting and reinstalling the apps, App World, even going through the Google Chrome plugin, nothing works. I’ve spent some time letting certain developers and the BlackBerryDev community about my findings but their guess is as good as ours.
As much as I’ve come to love App World, I must admit it’s issues like this that pushed me to repurchase all my apps through MobiHand and our own Berryfication Store (a MobiHand affiliate). Except one little problem now. Too many of the big name developers have pulled their product line from MobiHand, so we are left with only one option. You’d have to create 2 BlackBerry ID accounts, one for BlackBerry smartphone, the other for BlackBerry tablet and purchase 2 copies of each multiple-compatible app just to enjoy the same experience on table & smartphone. Or maybe if enough users speak up RIM will actually fix this bug!
Let us know if you’ve had this issue and what you’ve tried and/or what may have worked for you to find a work-a-round. I know I’d love to know!
