According to supply chain sources cited by the Taiwanese publication, the 12-inch MacBook Air has entered mass production at Quanta Computer, one of Apples Taiwan-based manufacturing partners. This positions the product at a probable launch in the first quarter of this year.
Apples next-generation ultraportable notebook computer is expected to replace the 11-inch MacBook Air as a smaller and cheaper alternative to the 13-inch MacBook Air. Its rumored to feature a Retina display along with a substantial redesign that includes an edge-to-edge keyboard (see rendering below) and only one port (of the USB Type-C sort).
Is this the rumored 12-inch MacBook Air?
Quanta is said to be recruiting more workers to help ramp up the production of the 12-inch MacBook Air.
In addition, the company is reportedly planning to go on a hiring spree for the production of the Apple Watch, employing as many as 30,000 additional workers in the process. Quanta was reported late last September to be the sole manufacturer of Apples highly anticipated wearable device, which is expected to be launched by the end of March.
