There’s no doubt iOS devices can provide hours of entertainment, but they can also be used as innovative learning tools. Case and point, is the new app Quick Math+, which is all about testing mathematical skills for grade 5-8, but anyone can get use out of the app. There are four main sections to be tested on with solve, memorize, compare, and swap with each one offering four levels of difficulty. The four different levels allow anyone to start from the beginning, and work their way up, or just jump right into the advanced challenge. Each round is time based, and your score is based on how quickly you complete the series of problems. The app can test math, as well as response time.
The highlight of Quick Math+ is that it uses the brilliant MyScript handwriting recognition engine. That means you can simply use your finger to write in the answer anywhere on screen. It lets you quickly input your answer to simply focus on the math problem at hand. The one thing the app doesn’t include is a little notepad, which is necessary once you reach the advanced stages, and aren’t using a calculator. The app also doesn’t provide any feedback, or learning techniques, and is more just a series of tests. Those tests are finely crafted though, providing you with order of operations and parentheses, indices and negative numbers, greater than/less than, memorization challenges, and more. The app also supports multiple user accounts, three star scoring, and time based histories to challenge your previous bests, and even others.
Quick Math+ ($1.99 -> Free, Universal) is currently free for a limited time, and it’s a great addition to your app collection. It’s a surprisingly fun way to test your math skills, and the handwriting engine works flawlessly.
