I always loved the goosebumps you get when you switch on the old console that you haven’t touched in a decade. Well, the goosebumps are back. What started as an April fool’s day joke turned into a serious effort for a company named as hyperkin. They have developed an accessory called as the smart boy. The specialty of this accessory is that it will allow you to play the game on an old Game Boy cartridge that has been lying around but this time on your smartphone screen.
It’s not a new idea. Many unofficial emulators are available on the play store that will let you play all the Game Boy games but this accessory has something the apps don’t have. The look and feel of a real Game Boy. Touch screen controls are good but nothing beats the physical buttons while gaming.
The smart boy is available for $60 and will ship in the month of December. The accessory is currently compatible only with the android devices. The iOS support status is unknown. The phone will have to slide into the slot provided and the cartridge into the secondary slot. The top half of the screen display the actual Game Boy user interface and will let you play the game on the cartridges of the Game Boy as well as Game Boy color.
The button layout and controls are the same ones found on the original Game Boy. One thing I noticed is that the games look fantastic on the advance android display when compared to the monochromatic screen of the ancient Game Boy. This actually enhances the gaming experience further.
