Water resistant smartphones have been around for quite some time, but none of the manufacturers took the feature that seriously. But that changed last year when Sony launched the Xperia Z, making it one of the first Android flagships to sport the feature. But this year could mark the arrival of more such smartphones if the Korean media is to be believed. According to these reports, the upcoming LG G3 as well as the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 phablet could sport this feature at launch.
This is an early report, so take it with the usual grain of salt. But it’s clear that manufacturers are quickly making the switch to the latest in technology in order to remain competitive. Sony surprisingly was the first to get there and it still continues to adopt this technology. Samsung joined the list with the Galaxy S5 which will break cover in about three weeks from now.
The Korean report further claims that the LG G3 will launch in May 2014, which is what several reports in the past have suggested. Although we’ve also heard that the smartphone could break cover in June.
The handset is rumored to feature a 5.5 inch Quad HD display in addition to a 13 or 16 megapixel camera and a Snapdragon 801 chipset. So combined with the water/dust resistance, the G3 could certainly be one of the best smartphones of the year if any of these rumors materialize.
