App developers are planning to transition from Apple’s iOS to Google’s Android platform over the next six months, new research by GetJar has revealed.
In a survey of 300 developers by the independent app store, it was discovered that although iOS still rules the roost, 80 per cent questioned currently develop for iPhone and 59 per cent for iPad, Android is set to overtake Apple’s offering in the very near future.
When developers were asked what platforms they planned to create for in the next six months compared to what they’re doing today, here’s what they replied:
iOS: Today 80% -> six months from now 55.6%
Android: 51.2% Today -> 58% six months from now
iOS iPad: 59% Today -> 52% six months from now
Android Tablet: 20.5% Today -> 47% six months from now
Interestingly, only 44 per cent of developers claimed to be currently using Android Market to distribute their products. That figure looks certain to rise improve over the next six months however, with nearly 70 percent of developers saying they’ll work with Google’s app retail outlet in the future.
