Problem #1: Missing option to set priority mode in Lollipop updated Samsung Galaxy S5
I am trying to configure priority mode to allow silencing sounds from the lock screen. Directions talk about setting sounds on the Interruptions menu under Sounds. I do not have this menu item, nor the item under Notifications, Sound Options. Any Idea why I would be missing this menu item? — Daniel
Solution: Hi Daniel. The general way of setting up priority interruptions in new Lollipop OS should be under Settings>Sound & notification. Once you’re in this menu, you’ll have more options to choose from. If you don’t have such options, please consult your carrier about them. Some carriers modify the stock Android OS so they can add or remove features and functions for their subscribers.
Problem #2: Samsung Galaxy S5 keeps on rebooting after downloading Lollipop
Good day. the problem is that my device is automatically restarting and does not detect the SIM card. I have already reinstalled the software after one day i tried to insert SIM card it not working. then i put my SD card after that start the restarting problem. then again i reinstalled the Lollipop. the same problem again repeating. — Ameen
Solution: Hi Ameen. We have to consider a few things if a device reboots on its own. If this problem started happening after updating the phone to Lollipop and a factory reset afterwards does not resolve the issue, other factors may be to blame. Let’s take a look at some possible causes for this trouble.
A malfunctioning battery can drain its power fast, which may be perceived by a user as random reboot or restart. To check if your battery is working normally or not, try checking for tell-tale signs of bulging on the sides. You can take it out from the phone and put it in a flat surface to see if it seesaws. If it lies flat and without any bulges, try using another battery on your S5.
If the problem won’t appear, that’s a clear sign that your old battery may have simply run out of steam.
Corrupted or rogue apps
Many applications may not be fully compatible with Android Lollipop at this time, that despite the fact that the new OS has been released for quite some time now. There are two ways to verify if our hunch is right. One is by booting the phone in safe mode, and the other is by performing a factory reset, then installing your apps individually. The second method is tedious and demands more effort so we recommend that you do safe mode. If you haven’t tried booting your Android phone in safe mode before, here are the steps:
Turn the device off.
Press and hold the Power key.
When ‘Samsung Galaxy S5′ appears on the screen, release the Power key.
Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.
Also known as diagnostic mode, safe mode prevents third party apps from running making it a convenient tool in narrowing down the source of the problem. It still allows a user to remove apps so if the problem does not return, consider removing your apps until the issue is fixed.
Bad operating system or firmware
While rare, there’s always a small chance that the firmware you have downloaded is corrupted or bad. Try doing a factory reset again and observe the phone for 24 hours without installing any apps. If you downloaded Lollipop via over-the-air, try to re-install it using Kies this time.
Problem #3: Galaxy S5 getting low signal after updating to Lollipop
Since updating to Lollipop back in April, my service signal has dropped considerably. I rarely have more than 2 bars of service, usually none. The worst is always at home. — Emily
Solution: Hi Emily. If you started having signal reception problems around the time you installed Lollipop, please let your network provider know about it. Carriers modify the standard Lollipop OS so they can introduce their own services on their subscribers’ devices. Getting assistance directly from them is more helpful as they may be aware of this problem all along. In the event that only you is having this trouble in your area, they may simply consider giving you a replacement phone if they can’t fix it.
Problem #4: Galaxy S5 S Health app freezing after installing Lollipop
The S Health app started freezing up after the update to Lollipop OS. could it be a problem with Lollipop? Also noticed battery life seems to be less since the update. — James
Solution: Hi James. Please do the following:
Turn the phone off.
Press and hold the following buttons together: Power, Volume Up and Home.
Release the buttons once the Android system recovery menu appears.
Use the Volume buttons to navigate to Wipe Cache Partition option.
Press the Power button to confirm selection.
Select Reboot System Now option after deleting the cache. Wait for the phone to reboot.
Problem #5: How to recover S-Planner notes after updating Samsung Galaxy S5 to Lollipop
I recently installed the Lollipop update and lost over 400 Calendar (S-Planner) notes. Can I get these back? — Gary
Solution: Hi Gary. S-Planner is a service from Samsung so if you enabled Samsung cloud in your device prior to the update, you may still be able to recover your notes. Otherwise, there’s simply no way to do it.
Problem #6: Samsung Galaxy S5 stops connecting to TV via HDMI after Lollipop update
To whom it may concern: Before the Lollipop update on my phone (July 2015), I used to watch movies using my phone connected to the TV through a cable (MHL to HDMI). After the update, the phone turn off as soon as I connect the cable between the phone and TV.
How could you help to solve this problem?

Solution: Hi Radames. Make sure that all your apps are updated, especially the one you are using to select videos from your phone when it’s connected to your TV.
Afterwards, please do the following:
Power down the Galaxy S5.
Press and hold the Volume up button, the Home button, and the Power button together until you see the Android on screen.
Use Volume down to highlight the wipe data/factory reset option and press the Power button to select it.
Use Volume down again to highlight Yes – delete all user data and press Power to select it.
Use the Power button to select Reboot system now.
When the S5 restarts it should be completely wiped and ready to set up again.
Doing the steps above will delete your personal data including videos, photos, contacts, etc. Make sure you back them up before proceeding.
Problem #7: Multiple issues on Galaxy S5 after updating to Lollipop
Hi! I have a Galaxy S5 unlocked. I bought an unlocked one as I will be going to Europe in about 2 weeks. About 3 weeks ago I got the Android 5.0 Lollipop. After that, my device is running slow, overheating, restarting without any reason, battery life problems and what is the most strange thing are the “”software updates”” that are constantly popping up. I think I did it already 4 times in 3 weeks. Is this even normal? Thank you. — Natalia
Problem #8: Wi-Fi issue on Galaxy S5 after a Lollipop update
I can re-create this issue. Restart phone, all works fine. If I use the mobile hotspot functionality, all works well and other devices can use the hotspot. After I use the hotspot, when I turn wifi on on the phone, it appears to connect to known wifi networks, but will NOT communicate over them. Acts like there is no data connection. If I reboot the phone, wifi works normally again. This happened after my initial Lollipop upgrade – have since Factory reset and issue still happens. — David
Solution: If a factory reset did not fix the problem, an application may be the reason behind it. Try doing another round of factory reset but don’t install any apps afterwards. Observe the phone after a clean OS re-install for 24 hours to see any difference. If everything works normally without your apps, try to install them one by one. Make sure to observe the phone after every installation to identify the culprit.
Problem #9: Ford Bluetooth not connecting to Galaxy S5 after Lollipop update
“Since updating to Lollipop, my Bluetooth will not connect to the Bluetooth in my Ford car. any help? — Liz
Solution: Hi Liz. Bluetooth issues did appear after Lollipop was released mainly because Bluetooth versions in vehicles are not updated. In other words, most of the BT issues that happen after Lollipop update was due to compatibility issues between devices. Try calling Ford and see if they can push an update to your system so it works with the BT system in your phone.
You can try to refresh the connection by deleting the old pairing and creating a new one.
Problem #10: Lollipop update on Galaxy S5 results to Contacts app not working properly
My phone notified me it’s time for an update. I already had Lollipop and it was running fine up until today when I installed a new small update. My messages don’t show display names, only numbers. Also when I click on Contacts, all it says is “Updating Contact List” and never loads. I’ve already tried the “Wipe cache partition” and that didn’t help. Please help lol its so frustrating. — Caleb
Solution: Hi Caleb. If deleting the cache partition did not help, please proceed to restoring the phone’s default via factory reset.
Problem #11: Galaxy S5 restarts and shut down on its own after updating to Lollipop
After I installed Lollipop 5.1.1 the fix update my phone now will shut down and restart on its own. Also my battery drains faster I had no issues with the phone until I installed the update. — Bert
Solution: Hi Bert. Please follow our suggestion for Natalia above.
Problem #12: Screen rotation on Galaxy S5 randomly stops working after Lollipop update
I noticed this after i installed the second Lollipop update. I do not have 5.1 yet. My screen doesn’t rotate. I have tried a soft reset, it works sometimes, other times it doesn’t. I have wiped the cache and same thing. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Just to be clear, my screen rotation button is on. I have also tried turning that off and back on. Thanks for your help in advance. — Louie
Solution: Hi Louie. We have observed this issue before right after Lollipop was released. Please restore the phone to its factory defaults (factory reset) and see if that will make any difference. We received some feedback from other users before that this worked.
