Alright, I’ll come out and say it. Third party controllers don’t have the greatest reputation, regardless of who makes them. And, as much as we’d like to imagine that kids are too young to know or care about the difference, I remember when I was a kid. I remember the old days of multiplayer, when getting last place meant you had to play the next round with the “fake” controller. We knew and cared.
That said, style is always a mitigating factor. Price is, too, and at the end of the day, console gamers really will play with any controller they get. The new line of Rock Candy controllers for the Wii, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 get the job done on both the style and price fronts, and it’s probably a safe bet that they work pretty well, too. And, don’t forget, you’ll be able to use that Wii controller with the upcoming Wii U, so it wouldn’t be a throwaway purchase in that sense.
The neon bright controllers come in blue, red, green, and pink. The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 controllers are both wired, and cost $25 and $15, respectively, which are seriously cheap when it comes to game controllers. The Nintendo Nunchuk controller will cost $13, while the actual Wiimote will cost $18. That also means you’ll be able to make crazy color combinations with your Nintendo controllers. Hey, maybe getting last place won’t be the pits anymore.
