While we’ve heard a lot of iPhone 5 rumors lately, not much has been said about its kid brother, the iPod touch. But the touch hasn’t received a major hardware update since last year, and new reports are suggesting this year will bring a newer design and a new (5th) generation. The Japanese blog Macotakara claims the 5th gen iPod touch will share specs with the upcoming iPhone 5, and will feature the A5 chip from the current iPhone 4S.
Macotakara also claims the iPod touch will have a similar slim form factor with a few slight changes: a larger 4-inch screen identical to the rumored next-gen iPhone 5 and a speed upgrade with the help of the A5 chip.
Macotakara sources say Apple will change the iPod touch design from the current casing to a newer finish similar to the one found in the MacBook line. Various reports also suggest Apple, will launch the device in both black and white models. While specifics concerning the camera specs are unclear, its expected Apple will include a better 5MP camera.
No launch date is given, but we can guess that if it the 5th gen iPod touch does come to fruition, it’ll be unveiled early September or October along with the new iPhone 5.
