Is the world coming to an end? From a leaked image, Samsung seems to have gone sober with the design of the rumoured camera phone called the S5 Zoom. Also the Korean cell phone giant now refers to the phone as the ‘K Zoom’ instead of the ‘S4’ or ‘S5’ naming convention.
In the leaked image—which we think looks pretty credible—we see a refreshed successor to the GALAXY S4 Zoom. The handset’s construction looks a lot slimmer, and the camera module with its zoom lens seems to be recessed; sitting almost flat in line with the rest of the body.
We had earlier reported about a Polish blogger who had leaked information that such a device exists and now it seems he was right indeed. The new leaker refers to the GALAXY K Zoom as “a mobile and camera hybrid” on his blog. The earlier S5 Zoom certainly looked like a hybrid (a hybrid mutation that is) but this camera phone definitely looks a lot sober.
From what we can see, the glossy plasticky finish has made way for a smoother and grainy leather like texture. Our guesses are that Samsung must be inspired by its own camera range while building the device. Another important clue that we got from the image, was from the inscription on the lens cover. It’s clearly a 10X zoom (24-240mm range in 35mm equivalent) although we have no clue how they managed to fit the setup into such a slim body.
What is missing though is the Zoom ring. We guess that Samsung will go for a touchscreen zoom control instead of the manual ring around the lens like the previous model. Also, we can all clearly see a xenon flash on the back as well, which should get this camera phone on par with the Lumia 1020.
Rumoured to pack a 20MP sensor and an HD (1280 x 720 pixel) display, the device will be powered by a 1.6 GHz quad-core processor and 2 GB of RAM.
