Corning announced their new glass, Gorilla Glass 4, last month and although we thought it’d be a while before we see the stronger glass on devices it turns out that Gorilla Glass 4 has been shipping for a while now. According to Corning and Samsung, the Galaxy Alpha and Galaxy Note 4 have been using Gorilla Glass 4 since the respective devices launched!
As a refresher, Corning claims that their new glass is “up to two times tougher than competitive glasses” and that it “survives up to 80 percent of the time.” This doesn’t mean that the glass is unbreakable by any means, no glass really is, but it is improved nonetheless.
Now there is a little bit of confusion as to whether or not Samsung has been using this glass all along or if they’re just starting to use it. I’m seeing conflicting claims depending where I look but lets hope that they’ve been using it all along.
