One of our readers contacted us regarding his Samsung Galaxy Note 5 (#Samsung #GalaxyNote5) because, according to him, the pictures in the DCIM folder were deleted after he installed a couple of apps including a fake GPS software. The second problem I included in this post is about the issues encountered by an owner while using the messaging app. Read on and learn how to tackle these issues. They are common and you might encounter them in the future.
For those who are looking for a solution to a different problem, visit the troubleshooting page we carved out for the Note 5. it contains hundreds of links to issues we already addressed. Find those that are related to yours and use the solutions we suggested. If they don’t work, then contact us by filling up this questionnaire.
Problem: Please Help me! I’m freaking out. Last night I downloaded the aforementioned apps and something caused my pictures to be deleted from DCIM folder as well as my sim card folder can you. Please help me.
Furthermore, I believe something wacky happened to my phone by me following these steps to fake a GPS location.
-About Device- build number- developer has been turned on. Then under the developer options I think I saw a message saying by me turning it on it can cause some errors… but I continued to the “allow mock location.”
I’m not sure if by me trying to fake the location to use Tinder caused all this to happen, but my pictures are now gone. And I feel like a complete moron for even messing with my phone when I’m not tech savvy.
I live in the Los Angeles area and are willing to go anywhere or pay for some help. Someone please help me out.
Troubleshooting: Okay, the first thing you need to do is open the Gallery app and see if the pictures that you think were deleted were actually deleted from your phone. No matter where the pictures are saved, the Gallery app can still detect them. If they don’t show in the Gallery, then there’s a chance there were actually deleted (permanently). But let me ask you, do you think the settings were changed back to default at some point? If so, the phone may have been reset deleting everything including your pictures.
Deleted files may not be recovered but try using a recovery software that is often offered for a price online. I can’t exactly tell you which one to use as I haven’t used one that works.
Issues while using the Messages app on Galaxy Note 5
Problem: First. Same issue as previous use regarding selection of group conversation. I called T-Mobile and they gave me the option to use the “Buyers Remorse” option and return the phone with the 14 day of receipt. Really?
Second. I have a very log lag time when using the text messages. From the time after I pick the recipient until it will allow me to type the message, it will lag sometimes up to 2 seconds. T-Mobile says get a new phone.
Suggestion: You know what, I understand carriers or service providers if they suggest to owners to get their devices replaced especially if they are still eligible for brand new replacement. Let’s face it, some units have problems during manufacturing and no one can do something about that. If you call Samsung, you will be advised to contact your provider and have it replaced and the same thing happens when you call your provider first.
Secondly, for phones that already have issues after a few days since unboxing, it’s easier to replace it immediately than to perform troubleshooting and let the customer undergo all those agonizing procedures just to make a brand-new phone work perfectly.
I, too, will suggest that you have it replaced while you’re still eligible. I’m sure you don’t want to deal with that same problem over and over. But before you actually return the unit, try to do the master reset to see if it makes a difference and to clear all your personal information from the device.
Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.
When the device powers on and displays ‘Power on logo’, release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, ‘wipe data/factory reset’ and press the Power key to select it.
Press the Vol Down button again until the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted and then press the Power key to select it.
After the reset is complete, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.
Redbox app not installed on Galaxy Note 5
Problem: I had a Note 2, 3, 4 and now I have the 5. I love the Redbox app but can’t find it for my Note 5. I hit up Samsung, they said it was on Redbox and Redbox said it is a Samsung issue. Any ideas? Thank you. — Steve
Answer: I don’t really understand what’s the problem here since you can just install Redbox app on your phone anytime. Don’t expect Samsung to say, “Hey, our device has a problem” because that’s never gonna happen. The same thing is true with Redbox. However, since the app in question is a third-party app (meaning it doesn’t come pre-installed on your phone), it’s the responsibility of the developer to make it easily available and compatible with almost all devices. If you were going to ask me whose fault it is, it’s Redbox’s but as I said I can’t see any problem here. Just open Play Store and search for Redbox, that’s all!
Oh, by the way, if Play Store flagged Redbox as “incompatible” with your device, just download the apk file and sideload it to your phone.
Invite doesn’t show up in Calendar app
Problem: After I received a calendar invite thru email (Exchange), i accepted it from the Mail app. But it doesn’t show up in my calendar. However, it shows up in Exchange account calendar.
Sometimes right after I accepted the invite, I can see a small popup at the bottom of the screen says “connection error” for a few seconds and then disappear.
Troubleshooting: I believe it’s more of a connectivity issue than anything else. You haven’t included any information as to the connection you’re using (Wi-Fi or mobile data) but try to troubleshoot your connection first especially if there were instances when you can’t browse or send/receive emails. If it were a connection problem, then this is just a simple syncing issue and can easily be fixed once you get a stable connection. However, if it persists, then try to setup your Exchange account–that usually fixes this kind of problem.
Email app shows 25 emails only
Problem: In my personal email account (hotmail.com) it will only allow me to see emails approximately my last 25 emails. How do I get it to always display all my emails that I have saved?
Suggestion: Open Settings app (I assume you’re using the stock one) and then tap Email and then Manage accounts. Choose the account you want to configure and under More settings, find the option Number of emails to load. That’s what you need to change.
Note 5 has no option to share photos synced from Facebook
Problem: No option to share synced photos from Facebook I can see the photos but when I click on it, it opens but only option available is to delete and I want to share it. Note 5 does not have a menu option only have back, home and open windows in itself. help please.
Answer: First of all, we cannot change the soft keys on your phone or add more options for your pictures but we can surely find ways to work around it. For example, if there’s no option to share synced photos from Facebook, then download them to your phone so you can share them using the Gallery app, or if you simply want to share them from your FB album to your timeline, then you can simply include them in your status. I hope this helps.
Verizon Message+ plus doesn’t show “Typing” anymore
Problem: When my wife and I first got our Note 5’s, in text apps like Message+ it would say the other person is typing while replying. It stopped and even after double checking the option for this feature it does not work. Tried other apps with same result. SMS/MMS issue? Carrier issue?
Answer: There was an update that took away such a useful feature but the thing is there’s not much we can do about it. If Verizon took it away, there must be a valid reason. My point is, only Verizon can answer your questions about that feature.
Also, you might still be able to find an older version of the app, which you can sideload to your phone.
Videos don’t play back on G+
Problem: G+ videos do not play back. I get a black screen with a spinning blue circle, and it looks like the video is loading, but it never stops doing that. Other videos work, like playing back from YouTube, seems like just playing videos from g+ doesn’t work. Thanks for your help.
Suggestion: It might be an issue with the videos. Try to download them and play back locally to know the quality and integrity of the videos you’re trying to play. Also, try to double-check your internet connection. If you are using mobile data, make sure G+ is not restricted to use background data.
Email and Messaging apps crash
Problem: Yesterday both, email and messaging stopped working. “Unfortunately, Email stopped working” and “Unfortunately, Messaging stopped working” error showed up. I can’t use these two apps and my any.do todo stopped working once.
Troubleshooting: Thanks for mentioning the apps that keep crashing but for this kind of problem, we need information as to how or if there was a significant event that happened that may have triggered the crashes. For example, was there an update or did the phone hung, lagged or froze prior to this problem? But since you haven’t included such information, then I suggest you clear the caches and the data of the apps that keep crashing. If the problem persists, then try wiping the cache partition or do the master reset:
Wipe Cache Partition
Turn off the device.
Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
Press the Power key to select.
When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
Press the Power key to restart the device.
