The Samsung Galaxy S2 was released in May 2011, and the OTA update to Android 4.1.2 rolled out in February 2013. It was the last official Samsung Galaxy S2 update, but several custom ROMs have carried the device through to Android Lollipop 5.1.1, giving it a real longevity boost. Read on to find the latest Samsung Galaxy S2 Android update news.
You can still get Lollipop on your Samsung Galaxy S2, despite Samsung leaving it on Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2, thanks to the selfless work of the Android developer community. Omni, a community-based project, released its OmniROM 5.1.1 in November 2014.
The ROM remains in beta, and hasn't been updated since June 2015, so bugs are to be expected. If you desire a modern twist for your trusty S2, however, give it a go.
The files you need, and instructions on how to use them, along with known bugs, can all be found over at the XDA forums. One word of warning: be sure to back up your device before taking any steps towards installing the ROM.
Have you installed Android Lollipop on your Galaxy S2 using OmniROM 5.1.1? Or are you happy leaving it on Jelly Bean? Let us know in the comments.
