One of the reasons a lot of Samsung mobile devices are sold in the market is because most of the models come with a beautiful Super AMOLED display. These displays produce some of the most brilliant colors in a mobile device and have a higher pixel count making pictures look real. The #Samsung Galaxy #S4 for example uses a 5 inch Super AMOLED display with a Full HD resolution.
There are however some instances when problems relating to the display occur on the device. In our latest troubleshooting guide we will tackle the Galaxy S4 black screen issue & other related problems that our readers are facing. We will be providing the necessary troubleshooting steps that needs to be done to hopefully resolve the problem.

Problem:I have had my phone for a little over 2 years now, and just yesterday out of nowhere, my screen went black. I have never had any issues with battery power, and I’ve only dropped it three times throughout its lifespan all with a protective case on so I was really confused because I never had any issues. All I can recall is that the battery was last at 78 percent and it worked just great with my alarm waking up in the morning. I set it back down after that and then black screen was all I could get out of it. I took the battery out and let it sit for awhile, place it back in and powered it on which is displayed the “Samsung Galaxy S4″logo and vibrating before going back to a black screen as if it just turned off again or something. I’m not sure because after the logo, nothing turns on, no power to the buttons or anything so essentially im thinking its the power and battery. but then i leave it for a good two hours while im at work, check it and then the screen it back on, but as soon as I try to swipe the screen to unlock. Its back to black screen. I’m so confused….and I don’t see any troubleshooting for this. Have I lost hope for a repair? Did I lose all data?
Solution: There are various factors that could cause your phone display to turn black however these could all be narrowed down to either a software related problem or a hardware related problem.
Let’s first tackle the software side of things. Take out your phone battery, if your phone has a microSD card installed then take it out as well. Press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This act discharges your phone circuit and clears out its RAM. Reinsert the battery but leave the microSD out first. Turn on your phone.
If your phone does not turn on connect it to its wall charger and let it charge for 20 minutes. After the 20 minute period attempt to turn on your phone.
If the problem persists then try to access the recovery mode then wipe the cache partition of your phone.
You should also try connecting your phone using a USB cord to a computer running on Kies. Once connected press on the power button. If your phone can be detected by Kies then immediately backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
If the reset fails to resolve the problem then this may already be a hardware related problem. If this is the case then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
S4 Black Screen While Playing A Game
Problem: I was on my phone playing a game, and I was checking a message on skype all of a sudden it went to a black screen and my phone display still lights up and the lights at the top do as well, but Nothing else on the screen responds, it is just blank, and it vibrates as well. I have never had this issue before, but I hope it’s something major. I have tried taking out the battery, and holding the power button, but it didn’t work. Please help
Solution: This problem could be caused by some form of corrupt data in your phone. It’s good that you took out the battery and pressed the power button as sometimes the issue gets resolved by doing this step. Unfortunately in this case that didn’t help.
What you should do next is to remove the microSD card of your phone if you have one installed. Charge your phone for at least 20 minutes using its wall charger then try to turn it on.
If the display is still black then access the recovery mode then wipe the cache partition of your phone.
You may also want to try to connect your phone using a USB cord to a computer with Kies installed. If your phone is detected then I suggest you backup your phone data then restore your phone software.
If the problem still persists at this point then you may need to reflash your phone software. Take note that this will delete all data stored in your device. Instructions on how to reflash your phone can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.
If after reflashing your phone software the issue still persists then this may already be a hardware related problem. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
S4 Black Screen After Restart
Problem:My phone has recently been playing up at times when I use the app ‘words with fiends’.
It glitches and sometimes turns off, and when I turn it back on it comes up with a black screen and the android symbol turned on its side and opened with a red sign in it. It then gives me options like to ‘reboot’, ‘factory reset’, ‘reset cache’ and one more that I can’t remember. My volume button is pushed in and we found previously that when we pulled it out to the normal level the phone starts to work again. But when we did it this time the phone screen went completely white and then completely black. It now won’t turn on at all. We’ve tried charging it and removing the battery but both haven’t worked. However I’m able to connect it to my laptop and download all my photos etc.
Solution: Your phone appears to be experiencing multiple problems. First, the black screen problem which may be caused by corrupt data. Next, is the hardware problem caused by your volume button. To resolve this you need to have the volume button of your phone repaired first.
Since you can connect your phone to your laptop make sure to backup all of its data before bringing it to an authorized repair center.
S4 Screen Flickering Issue
Problem:Hello droid guys. There’s a screen problem in my s4 . My screen flickers when i turn my brightness low (the lower half of screen) . This happens when i have my brightness on auto and i turn it low and it sometimes flickers even when i balance the brightness . I read somewhere it was battery issue and i changed it but nothing it still happens. It also happens if i uncheck auto brightness and turn my brightness all the way down. P.S : and no it’s not an app issue . I’ve factory reset my device but the flickering is still there. Hope you got what i’ve written . I’ll appreciate any help.
Solution: If the screen still flickers after performing a factory reset then this may already be a hardware related problem. The flex cable connecting the display to the phone board could be loose or the display itself may have an issue. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
S4 Black Screen After Getting Wet
Problem: I just accidentally dropped my phone in the sink while the water was running. I took it out immediately, turned it off opened the back and took out the battery, SIM card and dried it as much as I could. When I tried to turn it on, I got a message that said ” Downloading do not turn off target. After about 5 minutes the screen went blank and the lights went on. I could even receive calls, but the phone remains on a black screen. Any way I can fix this without spending a lot?
Solution: This issue may be caused by the water entering your phone. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
Before bringing your phone for repairs there are some troubleshooting steps that you can perform to check if this is a software related problem.
Take out the phone battery and the microSD card if you have one installed. Press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This takes out the residual charge in your phone circuit and clears out its RAM. Reinsert the battery then turn your phone on.
If the problem persists then try to wipe the cache partition of your phone.
If you have recently made a backup of your phone data then I suggest you also perform a factory reset.
