Released in 2013 running on Android Jelly Bean, the official Android Lollipop update in now available for the device. While there are rumors that it will officially be getting the Android Marshmallow update this is still uncertain but what is definitely sure is that it will be getting the unofficial update through custom ROMs.
Although an update can bring several new features to the device and can even improve its performance there are cases when problems occur because of the update. This is what we will be discussing today.
In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy S4 error after software update & other related problems.

Problem: Hi Recently my phone was got updated through wifi but in between this process i got the update error that version error.after this my phone got switched off and still i’m not able to switch on the same.i had tried the Hard reset formula but not getting result. pls help i lost my all contact details which is available inv phone
Solution: There’s a possibility that this problem is caused by a failed software update. There are various reasons why this can occur such as a corrupt software, battery low, and interrupted update among others.
If your phone does not turn on anymore try to connect it to its wall charger for at least 20 minutes. Check if you can get a charging indicator from your device. After 20 minutes try turning on your phone.
If the phone does not turn on then remove the battery and microSD card (if you have one installed). Press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This discharges the phone circuit and clears out its RAM. Reinsert the battery then see if your phone can turn on.
You should also try to connect your phone using a USB cord to a computer with Kies or Smart Switch running. Check if you can perform an emergency software recovery.
If the above troubleshooting steps fail then your last option is to reflash your device. You will need a copy of your phone’s firmware and the latest version of Odin installed in your computer. Instructions on how to do this can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.
Solution: If the problem still occurs even after you did a factory reset then you should manually check if there are any available software updates for your device then apply it. You can also connect your phone to a computer with Kies or Smart Switch running then check for any updates that may be available.
S4 Won’t Stop Vibrating After Software Update
Problem:I just updated my phone yesterday with the new available update. Now my phone won’t stop vibrating. There are no notifications present and it wasn’t doing this before. It also vibrates when there is a notification waiting and vibrates to let me know it’s there constantly.
Solution: Several other owners of different smartphone models that got the latest Lollipop update have also been experiencing this very same issue which makes me suspect that this may be a bug in the latest update. You should however check if there are other reasons why this is happening.
The first thing you should do is to start your phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition. This deletes the temporary data stored in your phone which could be causing the problem.
If the problem still occurs then the next step is to check if an app you installed is causing this. To do this just start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are disabled. If the problem disappears then it is most likely caused by an app. Find out what app this is nad uninstall it.
One last troubleshooting step that you can do is a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing this.
S4 Power Button Unresponsive After Software Update
Problem:Hello . I just upgraded my Samsung Galaxy (GT-I9515L) to Lollipop 5.0.1 . But after i upgraded it i had some problems like : 1) I have to push 4-5 times my power button to turn my galaxy on , 2) Problems with recent task etc. I have tried Safe mode , factory data reset , recovery mode and nothing changed . When i downgraded my phone to 4.4.2 my phone was working again fine . Only on Lollipop i have those issues . Any suggestion? PLEASE HELP.
Solution: If the factory reset fails to resolve the issue but downgrading to the phone software does then the problem could be caused by the Lollipop version installed in your device. Did you get the upgrade from official channels or did you upgrade your phone manually by flashing it? If you upgraded the phone software manually then there may be an issue with the firmware version that you are using. Double check this version and make sure that it is intended for your specific model. It’s best to download another copy of this firmware version from another source then check if the problem still occurs with this installed.
S4 Stuck In Custom OS Screen
Problem:My Samsung S4 is stuck on a screen that says- A custom OS can cause critical problems in phone and installed applications. . If you want to download a custom OS,press the volume up key .Otherwise press the volume down key to cancel Volume up: Continue, Volume down: cancel (restart phone) volume keys do not respond and when i take the battery out to restart phone it just goes right back to that screen
Solution: There’s a possibility that this problem could be caused by a stuck volume key. You should however check if the problem is caused by an issue with the phone software. Check if you can access the recovery mode of your phone. From here start by wiping the cache partition of your phone. If the problem remains then proceed with a factory reset from recovery mode. Take note that this will delete the data stored in your phone so only consider doing this if you have recently made a backup of your phone data or if you are willing to lose your phone data.
If the above troubleshooting steps fail then you need to bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
S4 Fails To Update
Problem:I am unable to update the system at all. I tried to do it many times for over the year. It downloads OK and start to update up to 25%, then starts to install. It goes up to 27% and then reboots. Afterwards it says that update has failed. I tried your suggestion with wiping the cache wipe, but it didn’t help. Anyway, I have over 4GB of free space on it.
Solution: If wiping the cache partition of your phone fails to resolve the problem then you should backup your phone data then do a factory reset. After the reset check if you can update your phone. You can also try updating your phone using the Kies or Smart Switch software.
S4 Keeps Getting Notification Tone After Software Update
Problem: Since i did the lollipop update about a week ago, every time i do an app update i keep getting a notification tone which is driving me crazy. It also happens when i get a FB notification i get my usual tone then about 30sec. Later i get another different message tone. I have removed settings and phone number from FB checked all settings in phone and FB and can’t find why it still happening. Please help!!
Solution: Try starting your phone in Safe Mode then check if you are still getting the notification tones. If not, then the problem could be caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
If the problem still occurs even in Safe Mode then I suggest you do a factory reset. Just make sure to backup your phone data before doing this procedure.
