Problem:Texts fail to send even though there are 4 bars or more. Calls can be made I just can’t send a text sometimes.. Not all the time, only sporadically. If you power off and then back on it fixes itself for a while. Usually have to do this once a day. Only a small inconvenience but still a pain.
Solution: Since this issue gets resolved whenever you restart your phone then I suspect this is caused by some form of corrupt data. Try clearing the cache and data of your messaging app then check if the issue still occurs. If it does then follow this up by wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery menu.
There are also cases where this issue can be caused by an app you downloaded to your phone. To check if this is the case I suggest you start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the default apps are allowed to run while the apps you downloaded are disabled. If you don’t experience the issue in this mode then it’s likely caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
One last troubleshooting step that you should consider doing if the issue still persists is a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before proceeding.
S4 Messaging App Not Responding
Problem:When I try text or write anything it won’t let me . Tap screen for ages & nothing. So can only use phone to phone
Solution: This problem could be caused by a glitch in the messaging app. Try clearing the cache and data of the messaging app. It’s best if you follow this up by wiping the cache partition of your phone.
S4 Not Receiving Text Messages
Problem: I’m not receiving messages. I can send them OK and are received. But I don’t get them. For about 3 days now. What will happen if I clear data the under settings, app manager, messages.. I cleared the cache. But afraid to clear data.
Solution: If you clear the data of your messaging app its settings, accounts, and databases will be reset. I suggest you perform this procedure and see if the problem gets resolved. It’s also best to follow this up by wiping the cache partition of your phone.
If the problem still persists then check your phone spam list setting. You may have accidentally placed some numbers in your spam list which is why you can’t see the received messages in your phone inbox.
Try sending yourself a text message. If you can receive your own message then the problem may be on the sender’s side.
Another factor to consider is if an app installed in your phone is causing this issue. To check if this is the case start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps will run while apps you downloaded are disabled. If you can receive text messages in this mode then the problem may be caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
One last troubleshooting step you can do is a factory reset. Before doing this make sure to backup your phone data.
If the factory reset fails to resolve the issue then I suggest you contact your carrier and have them check for any account related issues.
S4 Text Messaging Stops Working
Problem:Every now and then, several times a day, phone’s texting and calls will stop working. I tried to memorize the error it gave me when I would try to send a text, something like, “service unavailable, will save until service becomes available”, and when I try to make a call, it says “mobile service unavailable”. It shows that I have bars. There’s no warning, so I end up missing calls, and until I restart my phone, I have no idea I have texts and voice mails. Then, my phone will ding and chirp for like 3 min straight as all the piled up messages come through. I’ve taken the battery out and kept it out for 20 min+ twice. And restarting it doesn’t always fix it, then I’ve taken out the battery, and then once it STILL didn’t work, and as I had my house phone in my hand to call sprint, it started working. again. Sprint is useless. Please help!!!
Solution: Does this issue occur in one area or does it occur anywhere you go? If it only occurs in one area then this may be caused by a problem on the network. If this is the case then I suggest you contact your carrier.
If this is a phone related problem then I suggest you backup your phone data then immediately do a factory reset. Once the reset has finished do not install any apps yet or update your phone. You should first check if the issue still occurs. If it doesn’t then proceed with installing your apps.
If the problem still occurs after the factory reset then this may already be a hardware related issue. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
S4 Text Messages Arrive Out Of Order
Problem:Text messages are out of order. The reply will show up on the screen as if sent before my message.
Solution: This issue is usually caused by the system data and time not set to automatic. Go to your phone settings then under the Date and Time section make sure that Automatic Date and Time, and Automatic time zone are checked.
S4 Not Receiving Text Messages
Problem: Recently received replace mentioned phone from warranty program which is a Verizon s4 I have AT&T as my carrier. I have had issues with memory on device storage miscellaneous space as well as of today now I cannot send pictures via text and now can no longer receive text messages. I have cleaned out storage and cache. Backed up to SD card regularly and cloud. Not sure what else to do. Frustrated.
Solution: Since your phone seems to be affected by multiple issues I suggest you start fresh by backing up your phone data then doing a factory reset.
Once the factory reset is complete make sure to check your phone APN settings. This should match the settings used by AT&T. Make the necessary changes on your phone if necessary.
To send a picture message you should have an active data subscription and the mobile data switch of your phone should be turned on.
