Problem: Hello Harold, I have an issue with my Samsung Galaxy S4 phone. It is not proceeding after the black screen logo (Samsung Galaxy S4) and the logo disappears after 2 to 3 seconds and reappear again, this automatically happens after inserting battery. Troubleshooting: Hi Abdul! I have seen a lot of problems like this before but majority of them usually happen after a major update. The most common cause is that some caches are corrupted during the update process preventing the phone from booting up normally. But this is not your case.
Based on your description, the only thing I can think of that’s causing this problem is the Power key–it is stuck. Try to fix it by pressing the power button many times. Such simple procedure often fixes stuck buttons but if the problem remained after that, it’s possible the button is damaged and needs to be replaced, or at least, the phone needs to be opened up.
I am not sure if your phone is still under warranty or not but if it still is, then let your provider’s technicians fix it for you. However, if you’re confident in cracking the phone up all by yourself, proceed at your own risk and see if the power button is damaged or just stuck. There’s no easy way to work about this issue because it’s a hardware problem.
MicroSD card constantly unmounts on Galaxy S4
Problem: Hi! I have a Galaxy S4 and recently I’ve been having trouble with my SD card. The card itself is fine but my phone seems to think it is constantly being removed then inserted back in the phone. It only happens when I pick up the phone or flip it into different positions. This causes the phone to be remarkably slow. It seems like it there could be a issue with the structure of the phone itself, not the data. If you have ever heard of this issue before, please let me know. Thanks! — Henry
Troubleshooting: Hello Henry. The first thing we need to do is to find out whether the problem is with the device or your microSD card and the best way to do that is to mount a different SD card on your phone and see if it still being unmounted without your intervention. Or, you can mount your microSD card to a different phone to find out if the problem still occurs.
If the problem is with your phone, then find out if it’s just the firmware that’s causing it or if it’s a hardware issue. Try booting the phone in safe mode to rule out the possibility that a third-party app is causing all this. If the problem occurs even in safe mode, then you really have to perform full hard reset. Should the problem remain after that, it’s safe to assume it’s a hardware issue.
Now, if it’s the microSD card that’s acting up, unmount it physically from your phone, let your computer read from it and backup all data you don’t want to lose. After that, reformat the card using FAT32 format and mount it back to your phone, then observe closely to see if the problem reoccurs. If so, it’s time you bought a new microSD card.
Galaxy S4 random volume drop issue workaround

Workaround: So all over the place in all sorts of forums and on your page, I found issues that I was having but no solutions. I found the simplest workaround. The issue was that Galaxy s4, s5 and s6 would randomly raise and lower the volume in earbuds, regardless of app used for music: can be streaming apps, downloaded music players, same issue. After checking the obvious like no buttons sticking on earbuds or settings stuck anywhere, I still had volume that was either randomly ear-piercing or silent.
So, I looked in different forums: no solutions though, but a lot of others seemed to have this issue with all 3 phones. I found how to deal with it on my phone so I thought you could share this with everyone: with earbuds plugged in, restart phone. voila. now headphones are recognized upon start up and you can unplug and plug in earbuds as you please without volume controls going up and down on their own. However, if the phone is restarted or shut down again, you’ll need to plug in earbuds again upon reboot each time you reboot it or the issue will start all over again the next time you use earbuds. Please share this so that maybe this will help others having the same problem. I haven’t had a problem with the volume since I’ve done this. Thanks! — Alison
Backup data without using a computer on Galaxy S4
Problem: My phone automatically updated itself and I can’t reset it without losing my data music and contacts. The wallpaper and background and lock screen is black I cannot set any pictures on my main screen . The layout has changed and I would appreciate If you can assist me somehow. My volume while using my music app will not go up past 10 instead of 15 the highest volume setting. Please get back to me I don’t want to do a hard reset. I have too many meaningful pictures that I need. How do I back up everything without using a computer? — Barry
Troubleshooting: When it comes to firmware updates especially major ones, there’s no guarantee that everything will go smoothly. There are always times when you need to wipe both the data and cache partition after the update to get rid of corrupt files that may hinder the phone from performing better. In your case, it seems like you need it.
Considering the fact that you can still boot up the phone normally and probably meddle with its settings, I think you just need to clear the caches for it to work normally. So, please try to follow these steps wipe the cache partition:
Turn off the device.
Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key
When the phone vibrates, let go of the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
Press the Power key to select. The phone will automatically restart after the cache is wiped.
The procedure may take care of the wallpaper and volume problems. However, about your question on how to backup your phone without using a computer, well, it’s possible. You just need to have a microSD card mounted and then copy all files you don’t want deleted from the phone’s internal memory to the SD card.
As to your contacts, you may sync them via Google or other online accounts you have. For pictures, if you don’t want to manually copy them to your microSD card, you can upload them through Facebook or Google+, and everything else can be done through Backup and restore via Settings.
Galaxy S4 lost data connection after lollipop update
Problem: Hello, I’m travelling in Germany at the moment and have a T Mobile pay as you go SIM in an unlocked S4. It appears after updating the software to Lollipop I have lost my data connection. Also ( gps and album art in the music player). I cleared the cache in most of the apps as suggested by someone on the forms, but no joy.
I also went to a T Mobile shop, and they put my SIM in a different phone and the data connected straight away. So, it appears to be a phone problem. The model is SGH-1337M. Any ideas on how to resolve this? Thanks very much. — Geoffrey
Troubleshooting: Let me guess, the phone’s not originally from T-Mobile, is it? Your problem boils down to the APN Settings. It’s a set of parameters that needs to be programmed to your phone so it can connect to T-Mobile’s data network.
Of course, the data connection worked when the rep put in your SIM card to a different phone because that phone has been originally programmed to connect to their network. But I’m surprised to know why they didn’t check the APN settings of your phone.
The best thing to do is call T-Mobile’s tech support, ask for the correct APN and set it up on your phone…or you can ask the rep to walk you through in doing that.
Tracking a lost Galaxy S4
Problem: Hello. I lost my mobile phone today and I want to know if there is a way I can track my phone? Its a Samsung Galaxy S4.
I don’t clearly remember my google account or password, is this required if I want to track my phone?
My battery should be dead by now as the last time I saw it the battery was really low.
And also my contract ended yesterday, so the sim card is blocked and no other phone can get through to the missing phone. What should I do? Thanks. — Hiima
Troubleshooting: Hello Hiima. If your contract already expired, we can count on the phone connecting to the internet mobile data. So, the only chance you locate your phone is if the one who found it will connect it to the internet via Wi-Fi. But then again, you will need the Google account (and password) that you setup in it. That’s the only way you can login to your account and go to Android Device Manager through a web browser on a computer. If you were able to login and the phone is connected to the internet, you may be able to locate on Google maps its location.
The other method is by using Samsung’s Find My Mobile service, however, you will need to have a Samsung account to be able to use it.
What you can do is report to your service provider that the phone was lost so they can red flag the IMEI but there’s no guarantee you can recover it nor will your provider help locating it especially that your contract already expired.
Galaxy S4 mobile data automatically turns on
Problem: Hi droid guy, thanks for reading my message. I would like to ask , why is my Samsung Galaxy S4 keep turn on the data itself? I try to disable all auto update that requires data and even change the APN setting. Yet it is still turn on . I even tried to find the solution that is on the Internet. None is working. I don’t get it. What’s the problem? I did reboot and tried a lot of stuff and yet it is still on. — Chun
Troubleshooting: I don’t really know how your phone was setup but try going to Settings > Connections > Data usage > tap the Menu key > Restrict background settings. While on that same page, uncheck Auto sync data as well.
If the problem persists after restricting background data, there must be an app that automatically enables the data. I don’t know what your service provider is but try to find an app that’s already installed on your phone and suggests about making internet connectivity better.
You may also try to boot the phone in safe mode and see if the problem occurs even when all third-party apps are disabled. If so, try doing the master reset if it’s worth the all hassle and time.
Battery drains fast on Galaxy S4
Problem: Hi. I noticed my Galaxy S4 was running really hot a few weeks ago for no reason. Now my battery dies by the afternoon. I am charging one sometimes two times per day instead of making it through an entire day (and a half if I forget to charge the night before).
I don’t feel it is a battery issue. I really think there is something running in the background of my phone and I just can’t figure out what. Any ideas are appreciated! — Dianna
Troubleshooting: Hi Dianna. When the phone heats up, try to view battery usage so you’ll an idea what apps are running. One of them may be the culprit, so try disabling the ones that show on top of the list. Also, if you have a microSD card mounted on your phone, try safely removing it and observe if the phone still heats up and drains the battery faster. If so, then it may be the time to reset the phone.
Galaxy S4 screen went black, keeps rebooting & vibrates
Problem: I bought a used Samsung Galaxy S4 phone about half a year ago and it has worked fine until this morning. I woke up and it was completely black. I was charging it all night so I do not think the battery is dead. when i hold down the power button to turn it on nothing happens. it doesn’t show the charging icon either. the only way i can get anything to show up on the screen is if I take the battery out then put it back in. it then vibrates then shows the Samsung Galaxy S4 logo but it gets cut off and goes back to black. I have the newest operating system that the s4 can get. I’ve went onto the website and looked at the trouble shooting techniques and none of them worked. I would really like if you could get back to me as soon as possible. Thank you. — Ivy
Troubleshooting: Hi Ivy. Based on your description, I believe the power button in your phone is stuck. Among the most common symptoms are the device won’t respond if the power key is pressed and if it would somehow respond, it will try to boot up but gets stuck on the logo then it’ll reboot and vibrate.
Press the Power key many times. Doing so will often fix stuck buttons but if not, you really need help from a technician. If the phone hasn’t been dropped, then it’s probably just a stuck Power key, otherwise, it may have been damaged and needs to replaced.
Galaxy S4 fell in a bucket of water
Question: I was mopping my house and had my phone in my pocket. It fell out of my pocket into a bucket of water. I in took it apart and put it in a container of dried rice. Will that work. If I let it sit in the rice for 3 days. If it doesn’t work. Could I get a replacement phone? — Jen
Answer: The honest answer is there’s no guarantee the phone will work after you dried it out but you wouldn’t if you won’t turn it on after a couple of days. Well, actually, the purpose of putting the phone in rice is so that all the moist will be absorbed by the grains.
There were reports from users who have also experienced this that leaving the phone to dry out in a bowl of rice would work but it depends how much water your phone absorbed. Electronic components get easily damaged by water and that’s one thing we can’t control.
About your question on replacement unit, well, liquid damage isn’t covered by warranty. So, you probably won’t get a replacement unit but even if your service provider provided you with a different unit, it would be a refurbished one.
