Galaxy S4 Power Sharing Notice Keeps Popping Up
Problem: Hi, I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 and out of nowhere the whole day today this weird power sharing notice keeps popping up on my screen and my battery keeps getting drained for some reason. Picture attached of pop up. “Power Sharing: You must download the app in order to control the amount of power shared. If you connect your device to another device with the Samsung Power Sharing Cable EP-SG900 without the app, the entire battery amount will be transferred to the other device. Connect to Samsung Apps and download the application.”
Please help. Thanks so much. — Sophia
Troubleshooting: Samsung developed an app called Power Sharing, which can turn your Samsung device into a power bank using a special cable. As mentioned in the notice, you will be able to control how much power is transferred by using the app, so if you’re not into sharing your S4’s power, there’s no use for this app. While it’s a Samsung app, it’s still considered a third-party as it didn’t come pre-installed on the device. That said, you can uninstall it from your phone to prevent this notice from popping up in the future.
From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
Tap the More tab.
Tap Application manager.
Swipe left or right to go to the All tab.
Scroll to and tap Power Sharing.
Galaxy S4 WiFi Issues
Problem: I have a Samsung galaxy s4 i-9500 that I ordered maybe a couple months ago. I’ve always had a wifi problem with it and I’m not sure why. I saw your post on your website and I tried mostly everything and nothing worked. My phone is running 4.2.2. Also let me just add that my mother just got samsung s4 as well but hers is a Samsung galaxy s4 i337 which also runs on 4.2.2 and her wifi signal is strong and working perfectly. I don’t know what else to do, I don’t know if it’s a defect with my phone or maybe because I’m running on kit kat and there seems to be a problem with most s4’s running kit kat.. I’m really not sure, please help in anyway that you can.
Suggestion: If you’ve exhausted all possible troubleshooting procedures to no avail, then it must be a hardware problem and you can’t do anything with it except send it in for repair. I’m not sure if you can still request for a replacement but negotiate with your provider and see what they have to offer to you.
Galaxy S4 Shows ‘Emergency Calls Only’ Notice
Problem: Hello Harold, I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 from AT&T and activated a straight talk SIM card. However, after a few days my phone lost signal and there’s a message “Emergency Calls”. I thought that the network has a problem but after 3 days the notification still visible on the screen and I cannot make and receive calls or even send and receive text message. I contacted straight talk about my problem but the representative told me to wait for 24 hours because they’re fixing the tower in area. But after 24 hours the issue is still the same and I don’t understand every time I call straight talk they’re always telling me to wait 24 hours because they’re still fixing the damage tower. I don’t know if the problem is my phone or wit straight talk. Your reply guys is a huge help for me. Thanks! — Neo
Troubleshooting: Hey, Neo. I can’t believe your provider let you wait that long without a solution or even an effort to help. It’s not the tower that has a problem but the SIM card. It might be damaged and needs replacement. Call Straight Talk again and request a replacement SIM. It should arrive within 5 days depending on how far you are from their warehouse. Or, you can simply buy a new SIM card off Walmart and have it activated over the phone.
Galaxy S4 Screen Won’t Light Up
Problem: Hi droid guy, my phone is Galaxy S4, actually this is my second problem with my phone. The issue started when I accidentally lean on the screen of my phone. In fact, the screen has no crack or damage after leaning on the screen but the screen won’t light-up. I rebooted my phone for several times but the screen won’t light up. I also charged my phone overnight because I thought the battery was also damaged but after charging, my phone still won’t charge. I hope you can help me droid guy because I don’t know how to fix the problem of my phone. Any advice is big help for me. thanks! — Kevin
Suggestion: Hey, Kevin. I think it’s a hardware issue but please try to boot the phone in safe mode to see if the screen lights up, or try the recovery mode. If the display remained black, you have to let a technician take a look at it. In case the screen turns on in either Safe Mode or Recovery Mode, you can proceed with a reset to fix the problem. Don’t forget to backup all your data before you do that.
Samsung S4 Blinks On and Shuts Off
Problem: Hello there, my Samsung S4 recently experienced some issues. It started with a fast dying battery and now it has become so bad that every time I plug it in to charge it and/or remove the battery and try to turn it back on, the screen will blink on for half a second, offering the “Samsung S4″ entry menu and then immediately shut down. I tried three separate batteries in the phone so that is definitely not the problem.
Is there any advice you could offer me? Encountered this problem before?
Anything that could help would be greatly appreciated, or at least a way I could transfer my media over. I have lots of meaningful pictures to me that I hope not to lose. Thanks, Nick.
Troubleshooting: Hi Nick. Thanks for ruling out the possibility that it was a battery issue. It seems to me that this is just a stuck Power button. Try pressing it many times to see if you can fix it just doing that, if not and if you are confident to open the phone on your own, then you inspect it to see if it’s just temporarily stuck. If it persists, a technician can help you with it. The worst case scenario would be to replace the Power key if it was damaged.
Galaxy S4 Won’t Turn On After App Installation
Problem: Hi guys, I hope you can help me with my problem because I cannot anymore use my phone for almost two weeks now. The issue started when I downloaded an application from Play Store. And after I installed the application my phone randomly shuts down and I cannot anymore turn it on.
On the next day I charge my phone for almost 10 hours but after charging it still won’t turn on. I called straight talk and talk with the representative for an hour but he said to charge my phone overnight. But after I charge overnight my phone still won’t turn on.
I don’t want to call straight talk anymore because they cannot fix the issue. Your articles are a huge help to us especially those non tech-savvy person. Please help me guys with my problem and more power! — Joy
Troubleshooting: Hi Joy. If you were sure that the cause of the random shut downs was the app you installed, then uninstall it and the issue will be resolved. If, however, you couldn’t go into Settings because the phone would shut down if you did, then boot the phone in safe mode and uninstall the application from there. That’s all you need to do and I based this on your description. Here’s how you boot S4 in Safe Mode:
Turn the device off completely.
Press and hold the Power button.
Once the Samsung Galaxy S4 logo appears on the screen, release the Power button.
As soon as you release the Power button, press and hold the Volume Down key.
Continue holding the Volume Down key until the phone has completed the reboot process.
If you can read ‘Safe Mode‘ at the bottom left corner of the screen, release the Volume Down key. Otherwise, repeat the process until you can boot the phone to Safe Mode.
Galaxy S4 Can’t Recognize Old MicroSD Card
Problem: Good day droid guy, I have a question about my Galaxy S4, because recently my phone cannot anymore recognize an SD card. This kind of issue started just this week when I purchased a new SD card and mounted it on my phone. But after I unmounted it and insert the old SD card my phone cannot anymore recognize the old SD card. I reboot my phone several times and do the same process of mounting and unmounting the SD card but my phone cannot recognize it. I talked to the representative the other day but she can’t help me with my problem, so I decided to post on your website hoping for your reply so that I can fix the problem of my phone. I’ll wait your advice guys and thank you! — Rick
Troubleshooting: Hey Rick. If the phone can read the new microSD card just fine, then it’s obvious the old one is the problem. I don’t know if you still have data in it but if you do, you need a computer. Perhaps your laptop can read from it and if that’s the case, take that opportunity to backup whatever it is you don’t want to lose. Then, reformat the microSD card using FAT32 format and try to mount it on your phone. If it couldn’t read from it, perhaps it’s time to let it go.
Galaxy S4 Can’t Receive MMS
Problem: Hello guys, the other day I bought a Samsung Galaxy S4 at Walmart. I can make and receive calls, send and receive text message and send an MMS. However, starting yesterday my phone cannot anymore receive an MMS but I can send. I tried several times sending an MMS to my own phone number but I cannot receive it. I talk to the representative and changed the APN settings but my phone still cannot receive an MMS. I’m hoping you can help with problem guys and I read all the time your articles and it’s a huge help to us. Thank you and more power! — Gwen
Troubleshooting: Apparently, Gwen, your phone’s mobile data reception works because you can send MMS messages. I believe it has something to do with the APN. I understand the rep you talked with already tried changing the settings in your phone but I suggest you reset your phone first then try to key in the APN again. That works most of the time.
Galaxy S4 Performance Issues
Problem: Hello, my Samsung Galaxy S4 was working fine about 3 days ago but as of now it has been really, really slow and laggy i have deleted most apps and things i didn’t use on the mobile and it seems a little better however i cannot watch videos on YouTube as when i open the video it just freezes at the start even though the video loads it just won’t play and im not sure how to fix it, please help!
Troubleshooting: Since you already deleted most of the apps and the problem persisted, it’s time you gave your phone a fresh start. Backup all your important data and perform full hard reset. I’m sure this will fix the problem.

To navigate through this menu, use the volume up/down buttons to scroll up and down and the power button to confirm selections.

When prompted, scroll to and select Reboot System Now. The phone will then reboot to its factory settings.
Galaxy S4 Can’t Download Apps From Play Store
Problem: My Samsung galaxy S4 is brand new. Just got it few weeks ago. It was working great now all the sudden with out changing anything or signing out of my accounts….it will not download apps from Google play. When I’m in Google play and find an app I want. I click install and it will look like it’s downloading in Google play but nothing will show up on my notification bar and nothing actually downloads. When I try to download I have perfect signal and unlimited data so I don’t understand the problem. I have plenty of storage on the phone. It used to download with no problems and fast. I have tried to restart the phone…even taking the battery out. Please help!
Troubleshooting: It’s a minor issue with Google Play Store and you can easily fix it by simply clearing its updates. Follow this procedure:
From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
Tap the More tab.
Tap Application manager.
Swipe left or right to go to the All tab.
Scroll to and tap Google Play Store.
Tap Uninstall Updates.
