Samsung’s brand new smartphone- camera hybrid, the Galaxy S4 Zoom, will only be available starting later this summer. Until then, in case you want to know how much it will cost (at least in the UK), we can tell you now.
Retailer Handtec is taking pre-orders for the S4 Zoom, asking £467.99 (€552, or $786) for it. That’s almost as much as the price of an unlocked 16GB Galaxy S4.
The Galaxy S4 Zoom is a 15.4mm-thick device that comes with a 16MP rear camera. This has 10x optical zoom, ISO 100 – 3200, and Xenon flash. So it should be a great choice if you’re serious about photography and don’t want to carry multiple devices around.
Camera aside, the S4 Zoom resembles the Galaxy S4 Mini a lot, running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and featuring: a 4.3 inch qHD display, LTE, NFC, dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon processor, 1.5GB of RAM, and 8GB of expandable internal memory.
As for the S4 Mini, we already told you that this has been priced at £389.99 in the UK, where it should be available starting July.
July is also the month when Nokia wants to “reinvent” zoom with its Eos Windows Phone 8 handset. Unlike Samsung, which uses traditional optical zoom for the new Galaxy, Nokia relies on PureView, its in-house technology that uses pixel oversampling (alongside other new generation software tricks).
