Samsung revealed the much awaited Galaxy S5 back in February, earlier this month at MWC (Mobile World Congress) now like many of us speculated, the phone did come with water resistance and dust protection. So it was pretty safe to say that there won’t be any Active variant of the phone as it has all the protection added beforehand. But now it seems Samsung has something else in mind.
The prolific and reliable @evleaks decided to tweet that Samsung will be launching an Active version of the Galaxy S5. The information was posted alongside the model number, the tweet also mentioned that the phone will be heading to major carriers such as Verizon and AT&T as well as other carriers. The phone will carry the model number “Samsung SM-G870x” you can check out the screen shot of the tweet posted below;
We all know that @evleaks are mostly on the spot, and if they are right this time too, then we might be seeing an official announcement pretty soon. However, we’re still not sure what kind of extra protection the Galaxy S5 Active will come with. Could it be that Samsung is aiming for a military grade certification like MIL-STD-810G certification which includes; thermal shock resistance, radiation, solar, vibration, rain, humidity, salt, and dust resistance, and if it does happen. The phone will definitely come with an awful lot of weight. Let’s see what Samsung has in stores for us.
We would update the readers as soon as there’s more official word about the S5 Active, stay tuned.
