What we believe to be the Galaxy S5 Active, have just leaked out its specs. Which include a 5.1-inch display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16MP rear-facing camera, 2MP front-facing camera, Android 4.4.2, and 16GB of storage. Which means the specs are essentially the same as the Galaxy S5, they are just dropping the Snapdragon 801 for the 800. Which there’s not a huge difference between the two, but you always want the latest and greatest, especially if you are signing a two-year contract for this phone. Otherwise the specs are identical, which makes the Galaxy S5 Active even more intriguing since the Galaxy S5 is already water resistant and dust proof.
Last year, the Galaxy S4 Active had a few spec changes from the Galaxy S4. That was an LCD display instead of AMOLED, camera dropped from 13MP to 8MP and the battery was a bit smaller. But the design was also a whole lot different. The biggest change between the two was that the Galaxy S4 Active was water resistant and dust resistant, while the Galaxy S4 wasn’t. Which makes us wonder why we have a Galaxy S5 Active, when the Galaxy S5 is dust and water resistant. Maybe Samsung has some other tricks up its sleeve this year. The Galaxy S5 Active was recently certified at the FCC for the US, so it’ll be heading over here. But it’ll likely be an exclusive to a carrier. Last year the Galaxy S4 Active was exclusive to AT&T.
Samsung does have an event scheduled for June 12th, although it appears that will be all about the new Galaxy S tablet, with the AMOLED display. But we may see some other smartphones and such from Samsung then. Last year they did an event in the summer where they launched the Galaxy S4 Active, Mini, Zoom and the Galaxy NX Camera. So who knows.
