Problem: Flickering green lines across the screen right before going into stand by and when trying to wake it up I have done the factory reset but I am still having the same issue even before downloading apps it has been happening since the lollipop android 5.0 came in, could it be this?
Solution: You could check if the phone software is causing the problem by accessing the recovery mode of your phone. From here you should check if the flickering green screen issue still occurs. It’s also best if you wipe the cache partition of your device. If the problem occurs in this mode then it could be caused by an issue with the phone hardware, possibly the display. If this is the case you need to have the phone checked at an authorized service center.
If the problem does not occur in this mode then you should check if the phone is running on the latest software version. It’s also a good idea to flash the previous software version on your phone to check if the update to Lollipop caused the problem.
S5 Screen Jumps Up And Down Then Freezes
Problem:As I am trying to use the phone, the screen jumps up and down the screen and freezes. Especially when using the keyboard in any app and texting. Sometimes just the status bar flickers and when it does this the phone is frozen and i can’t use it. This is the second S5 to do this to me, the first time Telstra replaced the phone as it was under warranty. So I know that restarting it, resetting it, clearing the cache etc won’t work as I’ve already done this. I just want to know if anyone else has had this happen and is there anything you can do as where I live doesn’t have the Telstra shop in it.
Solution: If doing a factory reset doesn’t resolve the issue then the problem could already be hardware related. Just to clarify, have you performed the following troubleshooting steps listed below?
Factory reset the phone then immediately check if the issue still occurs ( no apps or updates installed yet)
Check if the issue occurs in Safe Mode.If it doesn’t then an app could be causing the problem.
Check if the issue occurs in recovery mode. If it doesn’t then the phone software is causing the problem.
If the above steps fail to resolve the issue then this is most likely a hardware related problem already. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked if this is the case.
S5 Black Screen After Phone Dropped
Problem: I dropped my phone and when I picked it up off the carpet the screen was black. It had a case on it. This is the first time I’ve dropped it. The bottom buttons don’t light up. It was on vibrate and still vibrates when I hit the power button. There is a blue flashing light in the top left corner that is typically the indicator to a text or notice. I’ve tried to remove battery and hold power for a minute with no luck. I’ve repeated this action several times. I’m thinking this may be the end of the phone. Thoughts? Thank you.
Solution: Try to check if you are able to access the recovery mode. If the issue persists in this mode then this is most likely a hardware related problem possibly caused by a defective display. If this is the case then you should bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked. You probably will need to replace the phone display.
If however you are able to access the recovery mode and can see the options on the screen then I suggest you do a factory reset. Take note that your phone data will be deleted so make sure to have a backup copy before doing this.
S5 Display Is Black When Screen Times Out
Problem:OK I just picked up a used galaxy s5 and randomly when the screen times out or is manually turned off the screen goes black. Sound and touch still work. There’s a tiny flash of the screen when trying to restart but solid black. But if I take the sd card and slide it out then in quickly 1 outta 3 times I will fix the problem. Fixing the black screen can be done when phone is off or fully up and running by sliding it in and out, Tried resetting factory reset but I’m guessing a physical hardware problem. Tried other sd cards and wipes plus resets.. Any suggestions
Solution: If the factory reset fails to resolve the issue then there’s a chance that this could already be a hardware related problem. If this is the case then I would suggest you have your phone checked at an authorized service center so the exact component that failed can be pinpointed.
S5 Screen Is Difficult To Switch On
Problem: My screen is difficult to switch on, I press the home or power button up to 20 times, all I get is a white line 3/4 away up the screen, although eventually it comes on. Have tried loads of suggestions after googling but none have worked. Am I right in thinking this is probably hardware related.
Solution: Have you already performed the various troubleshooting steps that checks if the software is causing this problem?
Start the phone in Safe Mode. This allows you to check if an app is causing the problem.
Start the phone in recovery mode then wipe the cache partition of the device. This allows you to check if some form of corrupt temporary data is causing the problem.
Start the phone in recovery mode then do a factory reset. This allows you to check if the phone software is causing the problem. Make sure to have a backup of your phone data before doing this.
If you have already performed the steps listed above and the issue still occurs then this could already be a hardware related problem. I suggest you have your phone checked at an authorized service center.
S5 Screen No Light After Phone Dropped
Problem: phone fell and now has no light on the screen but rings normally when someone calls. the screen is dark has has no display on it. screen isnt cracked. don’t know the android version since screen is dark and i can’t manipulate it.
Solution: It’s very likely that the display got damaged when you dropped the phone. This is what happens when nothing can be seen on the screen but you are still getting notification sounds. To verify if this is the case you should try to start your phone in recovery mode. If the issue still occurs in this mode then you will need to have the display replaced at an authorized service center.
S5 Screen Does Not Turn Off
Problem: Just received refurbished Galaxy S5 to replace a dead S4. The power button turns off the display for a fraction of a second, and then it comes on again immediately. The Stay Awake setting is not activated. I am clueless how to put the screen in ‘sleep’ mode without having to turn the device off completely.
Solution: Try to check if the Smart Stay setting of your phone is enabled. If it is then try to disable it then check of the problem still occurs. If it does then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
S5 Does Not Turn On After Exposed To Cold
Problem:hey i finished work yesterday and i went to turn my phone on and a grey screen came on and when it went away the screen wouldn’t turn on. btw i take my phone with me to work and i work in a factory where the temp is super cold.
Solution: Sometimes the phone battery can be affected by cold temperatures. Try to take out the battery then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Reinsert the battery then connect the phone to its wall charge and let it charge for at least 20 minutes. Check if you can now turn on your phone.
