Problem:Hello.I have bought a new samsung galaxy s5 since the last november Black Friday in 2015. The first thing after power up, and wi fi connection, was an automatic android update to lollipop, from the factory kitkat. Everything was going perfect, fast, for a few months. What I have noticed, like some coincidence, that in the days when the new galaxy S7 was launched last monday, my S5 started to get slower, battery was draining faster out of nothing. I decided to perform factory reset, but did not helped much. Even with almost no apps installed, the S5 was performing the same way as before the factory reset. I have some paranoid suspicion, that somehow , Samsung may have some so called ” backdoor” access to all devices to manipulate customers devices , in such manner to determine them to buy newly launched products, in this case , the freshly unveiled galaxy s7, earlier this week. What do you think? Is that possible? As I have read on your internet page, I will try a new factory reset including wiping the cache partition, in hope that it will help. Thanks for any advice.
Solution: Creating a backdoor access on a device is not impossible to do however I doubt if Samsung would do this. The software updates that they release are available to the different independent software developers, developer who also create custom software for the device. If a backdoor were present then this would easily be detected. The company will also lose the trust of its customers if this were to happen.
The slow and battery drain issue of your phone could be caused by other factors. I highly recommend that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset to check if the problem is software related. Once the reset is done do not install anything in your phone yet. Check first if the issue still occurs. If your phone has a microSD card installed try taking it out as well as this may also be causing the problem.
For the battery drain problem try using a new battery on your phone. If your phone battery is weak, which will make it drain fast, then this should solve the problem.
S5 Freezes When Taking Photo
Problem:After I take pic, the phone freezes on the pic I just took. I have to hit the back or home key to get out. And it will not focus either. AT&T just did update automatically on my phone….help
Solution: The first thing to do in this case is to check if the camera app is causing the problem. Start the troubleshooting by clearing the cache and data of the camera app. This will delete the temporary data of the app, which if corrupt has been known to cause issues. Once this is done check if the issue still occurs.
Another factor that could cause this problem is the save location of the photo. The phone could freeze in the process of saving the photo taken and this usually happens if the default save location is set to the microSD card and this card has some corrupt sectors. Try taking out the microSD card or switching the save location to the internal storage of the phone then check if the problem still occurs.
Certain third party apps that you install can also cause this kind of problem. To check if this is the case you need to start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are disabled. Check if the problem still occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by a downloaded app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
If the above troubleshooting steps fail then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
S5 Facebook Video Freezes
Problem:In my Facebook app, every time I click a video to play it,the video only plays for a few seconds and then freezes and refuses to do anything. I don’t know what to do. I have tried everything I can think of to fix it. This issue just started several days ago.
Solution: You will need to make sure that your phone is connected to a stable Internet connection first to eliminate any connection related issues that could cause the video to freeze. Try to check if the problem occurs when your phone is connected to a different Wi-Fi network or your mobile data.
Next, check if this issue is caused by the app itself. Try clearing the cache and data of the Facebook app. If this doesn’t work then uninstall the Facebook app and install a fresh version from the Google Play Store.
I also suggest that you wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode to delete the temporary data in your device. This type of data has been known to cause issues if it is corrupt.
S5 Facebook Freezes
Problem: When I go into Facebook and try to share something the screen freezes and I have to restart. I have been having other issues sometimes with freezing and having had to restart.
Solution: If you are having a problem with the Facebook app freezing then the first thing you should do is to clear the cache and data of the app. Uninstalling then reinstalling a fresh version from the Google Play Store is also highly recommended.
If the issue still persists then start your phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition.
S5 Text Messaging App Lags
Problem: The default text messaging app on my phone lags really badly when I type. It freezes when i type and then when it catches up it repeats what I typed multiple times. There are times when I find that I’m not receiving all my messages or the receiver of my texts will get my message a week later. The only time I have typing issues is when I’m in my messages app.
Solution: If the problem is isolated to the messaging app alone then try to clear the cache and data of this app from the application manager. This will clear out the temporary data of the app which could be causing this problem.
You should also check if a third party app installed in your phone is causing the problem by stating the device in Safe Mode. While in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. If the issue does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
I also highly recommend that you wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
S5 Is Lagging
Problem:My phone has two problems. First, sometimes when I try to unlock the phone by pressing the home button or the lock key, the screen won’t light up but the buttons do and it takes a long time for the phone to finally light up. Second, the phones video player is very laggy. Whenever I try to try to videos, it lags and never plays smoothly.
Solution: This appears to be a software related problem. I suggest you first try to wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. If the issue still persists then proceed with backing up your phone data then do a factory reset.
