While Samsung may release a Galaxy S5 mini, and Galaxy S5 Active, it’s the rumoured Galaxy S5 Prime which is far more interesting. The Galaxy S5 Prime is thought to be a higher spec smartphone compared to the regular Galaxy S5 and improve on the phone's build quality with a brushed metal finish. Evleaks has also shown it in a new colour: Glowing Gold (shown above).
Samsung has made no reference to the Galaxy S5 Prime but the device is thought to be coming this month. When in June is unclear.
Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime/Galaxy F: Price
We're just speculating on price for now and it looks like you will probably have to have some pretty deep pockets to afford the Galaxy S5 Prime. Based on the rumoured specifications, which are better than the flagship Galaxy S5, the Prime model will cost even more.
The Galaxy S5 is available for around £549 – or a little less if you shop around – so the Galaxy S5 Prime is likely to launch near the £600 mark or even higher.
Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime: Specs
In our review of the Galaxy S5 we criticised the smartphone for its plastic build quality – and we weren't the only ones to do so. Well the Galaxy S5 Prime could address this problem as it's rumoured to offer an aluminium body.
The leaked photos in this article, from PhoneArena, show a brushed metal frame but a similar looking 'perforated' rear cover which is found on the Galaxy S5.
We already know that the LG G3 is going to push the boundaries and come with a Quad HD screen. The Galaxy S5 Prime was previously thought to feature the same high resolution (2560 x 1440) on a slightly smaller display - 5.2in compared to 5.5in. However, today's unveiling of a Quad HD S5 exclusive to Korea, plus word from Dutch site Tweakers, which claims to have seen the Prime at an event, seem to dash those Quad HD hopes.
Other possible hardware specs for the Galaxy S5 Prime include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, an Adreno 420 GPU and 3GB of RAM. These are all upgrades compared to the Galaxy S5 which has a Snapdragon 801, Adreno 330 and 2GB of RAM.
It's thought that the Galaxy S5 Prime will come preloaded with Android 4.4.3 KitKat and, no doubt, Samsung's TouchWiz user interface.
Based on the leaked photos, the Galaxy S5 Prime will retain the fingerprint scanner and heart rate monitor found on its predecessor. It also has a flap covering the microUSB port so it looks like it's also dust- and waterproof.
