Samsung has long been rumored to be working on a higher-end version of the Galaxy S5, tentatively referred to as the Galaxy S5 Prime. And now we may be looking at the first ever pictures showing it.
What you see below is apparently the famed and oft-leaked S5 Prime, posing for a quick photo shoot. Some things are clearly different from the ‘vanilla’ S5′s design, though these two handsets are more similar than they are dissimilar. The speaker isn’t on the back in the Prime, it’s been relocated to the bottom, Galaxy Note 3 style. Also, the heart rate sensor below the camera appears to share its protective glass, and is not as separate from the camera as it is in the S5. The back cover is a bit different than the S5′s, and the source that leaked these photos claims that this phone is made from aluminum.
Obviously we can’t be sure of that before we touch it ourselves, or receive a few confirmations here and there. Though the aluminum body has been one of the most rumored features for the Galaxy S5 Prime over the past few months. This would please material purists, those people who buy phones for what they’re made from primarily (and apparently there are quite a few of those out there).
So in terms of outer casing, the Galaxy S5 Prime will battle the HTC One M8. Inside, though, it’s going to be in a different league altogether, if the leaked specs pan out. Hardware-wise, the only real competitor to the Galaxy S5 Prime will be the LG G3. In fact, both the S5 Prime and the G3 have recently been said to launch around the same time next month, so this could just be another episode in the Samsung Vs. LG saga.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime will have a 5.2-inch 2,560×1,440 (QHD) AMOLED touchscreen, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, and 3 GB of RAM. The rest of its specs should be identical to those in the Galaxy S5, though perhaps we’ll see a slightly larger battery to accommodate for all those extra pixels. It’s unclear what clock frequency its processor will use, and Android 4.4.3 may be preinstalled on this device when it’s released.
If the Galaxy S5 Prime will be outed in the next few weeks, then expect to see a lot more of it very soon. So stay tuned for that.
