Problem: I dropped my phone, the screen turned black and I am unable to unlock it or retrieve any data from it. I would like to retrieve contacts, sims, calendar, photos. Since the screen is black and locked I can not transfer data to my new phone.
Solution: When you dropped your phone and the screen became black there’s a big possibility that the problem is hardware related caused by a damaged display. Retrieving the data stored in the device when the phone is in this state is going to be difficult. You can try to connect your phone using a USB cord to a computer with Kies or Smart Switch running. If the software can detect your phone then you will be able to backup the data stored in it. If you are using Kies for example just click on the Back up/Restore tab then choose which data you would like to back up.
If Kies in not able to access your phone then you need to have the display repaired first. I suggest you bring the device to an authorized service center for checking.
S5 Turns On But Screen Is Black
Problem:Hi, i am having trouble with my screen to function. It will turn on because you can hear the vibration and startup sounds. Also the blue notification light still works as well as all the buttons. The screen doesn’t even display the startup logo. It is just black and I was wondering if there was anyway to fix that myself.
Solution: There’s a chance that the display of your phone is malfunctioning due to a loose connection or due to it being defective already. You can check first if the problem is software related by starting your phone in recovery mode. Two thing can happen when you try to start your phone in this mode. It’s either the black screen issue disappears or the black screen issue still occurs.
If the problem dissapears then this may be caused by a glitch in the phone software. You can then start the troubleshooting by wiping the cache partition from here. If that does not work then proceed with a factory reset. Take note that this will delete the data stored in your phone so make sure to only do this step if you have recently made a backup of your phone data or if you are willing to lose your data.
If the problem still occurs even when your phone is in recovery mode then this could already be a hardware related problem. If this is the case then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked. You’re probably going to need to have the display replaced.
S5 Cracked Screen Won’t Light Up
Problem: My screen has been cracked in the top left hand corner. Earlier today I was texting while it was snowing. I wiped it off and placed it in my pocket with my vape pen. I sat on my phone and the vape pen cracked it more in the top left corner. The screen won’t light up now but I still receive text and her it ring. Not sure if moisture got into the screen
Solution: The screen display crack getting bigger could be a main reason as to why the screen does not light up anymore. The best way to proceed in this case is to bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked. Make sure to mention as well that moisture may have entered the device. In my assessment you will need to have the display replaced.
S5 Black Screen
Problem:I’ve had this phone for half a year, I recently upgraded it to 5.0 Android about 3 months ago, the phone was working perfectly well the first month’s, but unexpectedly had given out and had a black screen. I cleared the cache and reset the system/user data, but no results. I had attempted everything supplied on this website, nothing seemed to work. When I attempt to turn on the phone, it’s either a boot loop or it successfully powered on, but with a black screen.
Solution: Since you can wipe the cache partition of your phone and you can perform a factory reset as well then it means that the issue does not occur when your phone is in recovery mode. This could point out to a corrupt software as the cause of the problem. You should however try to turn on the phone with the microSD taken out. If that does not work then try plugging your phone to its wall charger then turn it on. If your phone turns on normally then the issue could be caused by a faulty battery not supplying the required voltage to your phone.
If the above troubleshooting steps fail then your other option is to flash the phone software. You will need a copy of the phone firmware as well as the latest version of Odin installed in your computer. S5 Black Screen After Getting Wet
Problem:device was submerged in 6 inches of water for approx <= 5 seconds MAX! Took device apart, removed battery (I don’t think batt was our for 10 sec+) all dry. Once powered back on phone went into factory mode with the image of the droid and “downloading…do not turn off target” Phone is now connected to charger (was on 5% when this event occurred) Factory mode has left the screen, the device flashed the black and white Samsung logo a couple times. Now, just a blank black screen.
Solution: It’s very likely that some hardware component inside the phone has been water damaged. The best thing to do in this scenario is to bring the phone to an authorized service center and have it opened and checked. There are however some troubleshooting steps that you can do first before bringing the device in for repairs.
For starters, make sure that your phone is totally dry. To do this you need bury the device with the battery, SIM, and microSD card removed in a bowl of rice for at least 48 hours. The rice will absorb the moisture inside the phone.
After 48 hours reinsert just the battery then try to turn on the phone.
If you are still seeing a black screen check if you can start your phone in recovery mode. If you can then wipe the cache partition of your device. If that doesn’t work you can proceed with doing a factory reset in this mode. Take note that if you do a factory reset all your data will be erased. You should only consider this option if you have recently made a backup of your phone data or if you don’t mind losing your phone data.
If the phone can’t access the recovery mode then it’s time to bring the device to an authorized service center.
S5 Black Screen Flickers With Colors
Problem:When pushing button, the black screen flickers with other colors and sometimes doesn’t want to ‘wake up’, have to push button 3-4 times to get to wake up. Seems to work intermittently.
Solution: If this problem occurs intermittently then it could be caused by some form of corrupt data in your phone. You should first access the recovery mode of your phone then wipe its cache partition. If this does not resolve the problem then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
If the above steps fail to resolve the problem then this may be caused by an issue with the phone hardware. I suggest you have your phone checked at an authorized service center.
