Problem:I recently got a notification saying that I had a software update. I then accepted it and made sure I had a strong wifi signal. Then I waited about an hour for the update to install. After that hour, my phone said that it will restart. When the screen went black and turned on again, my phone said that there was an error and I couldn’t update my phone. This has happened to me before multiple times and I don’t know what to do.
Related Problem:This has been happening for awhile now, and i tried to download the latest version of the update. It will update and tell me to restart, but once it restarts the update said “Install interrupted. The software update could not be installed.” What does this mean? I have a good working WiFi to do this but, i tried multiple times and the phone won’t update to the latest version. Then when I try to update again it will say “”Please try again in 24 hours.”” Help please if you can!
Related Problem: I have been getting notifications of a software update. However, after the update downloads and phone resets to install the changes, I consistently get an message that the update has failed. This has happened multiple times. I have tried deleting apps, clearing app cache, etc. to no avail. Help me Obi Wan Kenobi.
Related Problem:My phone will say I have a system update, then it will restart and show the screen like it is doing the update. It will then turn on and say that the update was interrupted and failed. I currently tuning Android 5.0. I’ve tried several times and left it untouched plugged in. Thanks for your time I look forward to hearing back!
Related Problem: I cannot update my phone to the newest Android Version. It will download the update, reboot, but then it tells me the update failed. I have done this 5 times without success. Please help!
Solution: One of the main reasons why the update is not able to install in the device is due to insufficient internal storage space. AT&T suggests that between 4-7GB of internal storage space should be freed up for the latest software update to be installed successfully. Try clearing up some space by wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. You can also clear some space by going to Settings > Storage > Cached data > Clear Cached data.
In case you are still unable to get the latest software update into your phone after following the procedure above then you should backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done update your device.
S5 Updating Unlocked Device
Problem: How can I update the OS on my phone? This initially was a Verizon phone but was unlocked by Verizon. Currently my carrier is Straighttalk. When I attempt to update, I get message that I am up to date but I know that 4.4.4 is well behind. How can I get the phone updated?
Solution: If the phone has been unlocked then there’s a possibility that the software version it is running on will look for an update from the server of its original network. Since the phone is now on a different network it will not be able to access the said server. In order for the phone to be able to get the update you should insert an active Verizon SIM to the phone then do the update.
Another method that you can try is to connect your phone to a computer with Kies or Smart Switch running and do the update from there.
S5 Does Not Allow Software Updates To Be Installed
Problem:my phone does not allow me to install new updates nor access google play. it ready google play services won’t run and must be updated but it won’t give me a way to update it.i have tried to reset it and that doesn’t work. it sends me to a reboot bootloader screen which it has never done before and it doesn’t do anything once restarted
Solution: If your phone is still running on its stock firmware and has not been rooted then this could just be a software glitch. Try to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete try to check if you can now update your phone. Make sure to connect to a stable Wi-Fi network when doing this.
If the problem still persists then you should consider flashing the updated stock firmware file to your phone. Instructions on how to perform this procedure can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.
S5 Apps Crashing After Software Update
Problem:Apps will keep crashing, specially the apps related to google, but i have noticed the issue is not limited to google apps only, even the third party app will crash randomly. To resolve the issue, I have done a factory restore, wiped cache partition, flashed the full new lollipop firmware, did a downgrade to kitkat and rooted the phone and then did the firmware flash with lollipop even used the pit file this time and did re-partition while i flashed. By doing all this app crashes are gone less but the problem is still there making the phone unreliable. I managed to do all the software upgrades and downgrades successfully and confirmed it every time by going to setting>about> and matching the Baseband Version with the flash firmware file. I am currently on Baseband G900FXXU1BOC7. Thanks for reading and I will be very grateful if you can assist me with this.
Solution: If your apps keep on crashing even when different software versions are used on the device then there may be another reason why this is happening. Does your phone hav a microSD card installed? Try taking it out then check if the issue persists. You should also try checking if the issue occurs when the phone is plugged to a charger. If it doesn’t occur then maybe the battery is not providing the correct voltage to the phone in which case you should try to replace the battery with a new one. I would however suggest that you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked for any hardware related issues that could cause this problem.
S5 Operating System Has Been Modified
Problem:the operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorized way. try downloading samsung kies on your pc or visit a customer service center. i didn’t recall anything i did. what could possibly happen?
Solution: This issue usually happens if your phone has been rooted or is running on a custom firmware. To check if your phone is rooted check if you have an app called SuperSU in your phone. If this app exists then the phone is most likely rooted. You can also download a root checker app from the Google Play Store to check if the device is rooted.
In case your phone is running on a custom firmware you should flash its original firmware back. Instructions on how to to do this procedure can be found at several of the popula Android forums online.
If your phone software is untouched then this could just be a software glitch. Try backing up your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done check if the issue is resolved.
