In this post, I will address a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge (#Samsung #GalaxyS6Edge) problem that is not so common but affects the most basic function of the phone–sending / receiving text messages and making / receiving calls. But the thing about this problem is that it occurs only when the phone is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
There will also be other messaging-related issues so if you’re currently bugged by an issue with your new phone, I suggest you read each problem in this post as one of them may be the same as yours. We’ve been receiving a lot of complaints from owners who couldn’t send/receive MMS of picture messages, so I also included a few related problems.

Phone calls, text messaging won’t work if Wi-Fi is on
Problem: I am experiencing 2 issues.
My enhanced messaging is no longer working. My boyfriend has a Samsung Galaxy S6 same carrier and he no longer receives my texts if the enhanced messaging is turned on for my phone.
If my Wi-Fi is turned on I can not receive/make phone calls nor can I send or receive text messages.
I have done a Cache Partition. This did not help. The only thing I have yet to do is factory reset my phone. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated!
Troubleshooting: I will address the second issue first as it may also fix the first one. Actually, this problem has something to with the network type the phone is connected to. That said, all you need to do is switch from 4G to 3G so your phone can make / receive calls and send / receive SMS (and even MMS) while connected to Wi-Fi. Go to Settings > Mobile Networks > Preferred network type > switch from 4G to 3G.
If the enhanced messaging issue persists after following the procedure above, I suggest you call your provider. Lastly, factory reset will also make things work again.
Galaxy S6 Edge texting / typing lag
Problem: I’ve had the Edge for about a month, and just this past week I’ve been experiencing texting/typing lag. It’s extremely frustrating. I’ve tried doing this (found it on a forum):
Clearing the cache and data of the messaging app.
Wiping the cache partition.
But it didn’t work. I haven’t installed any new apps, aside from basic ones like Snapchat and such. Help!
Troubleshooting: Let me make it very simple to you. The first thing I want you to do is boot it in safe mode to isolate the problem.
Press and hold the Volume Down and Power keys for 20 to 30 seconds.
Once you see the Samsung logo, release the Power key immediately but continue pressing the Volume Down key.
Your phone should continue booting up and you will be prompted to unlock your phone as usual.
You will know if the phone successfully booted in safe mode if the text “Safe mode” is displayed at the lower-left corner of the screen.
In safe mode, try to compose a message to find out if the lag still happens and if so, then backup all your data and perform master reset.
Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.
When the device powers on and displays ‘Power on logo’, release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, ‘wipe data/factory reset’ and press the Power key to select it.
Press the Vol Down button again until the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted and then press the Power key to select it.
After the reset is complete, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.
If the problem was fixed in safe mode, then it has something to do with one of the apps you downloaded. If you’re using a third-party messaging app, you might want to uninstall that. Do the same thing if you’re using a third-party keyboard.
Galaxy S6 Edge can’t send / receive MMS
Problem: I can not send or receive picture messages! When I send one, it loads forever and never sends. When I receive one, it asks me to download over and over again. Kind of makes me wish I could remove the SIM and get another phone! PLEASE HELP!
Solution: Just turn on mobile data as it is required to transmit and receive MMS. If it’s already turned on and the problem persists, try switching from 4G to 3G if possible. Lastly, check the APN settings. You may call your service provider to get the correct one. Or, you can just remove the SIM and get another phone. Seriously, get your current unit replace.
Related Problem: For some weird reason whenever someone sends me a picture it takes forever to pop up! ! It should appear right away when I click on it! I have never had that type of issue with my phones.
Galaxy S6 Edge porting-related issue
Problem: I have recently bought the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge on the exact same day my partner did with Vodafone. I kept the new number whereas my partner switched his over from his previous provider. However since swapping his number over I am still receiving messages from the temporary vodafone number he was supplied with, as well as SMS from his old number that he wants to use. I only receive Samsung messages through the temporary vodafone number and sms messages via the number he wants to continue using. Thanks.
Suggestion: Wait it out as porting may last from 24 to 48 hours from the time of port request. If the problem continues after 48 hours, call the service provider. This is a service related concern that there’s not much you can do about it except report.
Receivers can’t see sent videos from Galaxy S6 Edge
Problem: There is a problem wit my resolution when I send multimedia messages. My videos record clear but once they are sent the receivers can’t see anything. Also my android version is 5.0.2 it wasn’t on the availability list at the top.
Suggestion: As long as you’re sure the video was properly attached and sent successfully, the problem is not with your phone but with the receiving end and there’s not much we can do about it.
Sending contact details from Galaxy S6 Edge
Problem: Whenever I try to text the contact details of someone saved in my phone through SMS, it gets changed into .vcf (which is MMS format). Can I send the contact as a normal SMS?
Suggestion: The .vcf is the standard format readable to all mobile phones and once attached to a text message, it will automatically be converted to MMS. The good thing about it is that the recipient will not manually type all the contact details as it will automatically be listed in the contact list upon receipt. So, if you can’t send MMS, then I suggest you manually type all those details. The recipient will also have to manually enter those details.
