As of late, we started receiving emails from our readers seeking assistance about the problems they encountered with their Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge (#Samsung #GalaxyS6Edge) and the most common issue often goes like this: “My phone just turned itself off and won’t turn on. I know there was enough battery left. What should I do?”
Power-related issues can be caused by a lot of factors depending on what exactly happened before it started. When troubleshooting, we technicians often ask what happened to the device because that’s our starting point. Knowing the cause of the problem is already half a solution but it seems a lot of owners don’t want to reveal it. Why? We don’t know.
What to do if your Galaxy S6 Edge was dropped in water?
It seems a lot of smartphone owners don’t know what to do when their devices got wet. So, I listed the things you should (or shouldn’t) do.
Step 1: Turn it off immediately – if the device was still on after you fished it out of water, don’t take any chances and turn it off immediately. The circuits can actually withstand minor liquid as long as there’s no electric current flowing through them. Inaccurate voltages and current plus short-circuits are the ones that damage the chips.
Step 2: Do not turn it on – now this one is for devices that were already off after getting it out of the water. Just like the first tip, you don’t want current flowing through the circuits when there’s liquid over them. I understand the curiosity to know whether the phone is still good or not but dismiss that thought immediately.
Step 3: Do not attempt to charge the phone – you are actually risking the main unit as well as the charger. Putting the device on charge while it’s wet is the same as turning it on.
Step 4: Put it in a bowl of rice – detach all removable parts like the case and SIM card and bury it in a bowl of dry rice grain for a couple of days to make sure water residue is absorbed by the grains.
Step 5: Attempt to turn it on – after a couple of days, place all the parts you removed and attempt to turn the phone on.
Step 6: Plug it in to charge for 10 minutes – if the phone didn’t turn on, then plug the charger in and leave it for 10 minutes and then try to turn it on again.
Step 7: Do the forced reboot procedure – after being idle for a couple of days, there’s a tendency the system crashed. So, press and hold the Volume Down and Power keys for 10 to 15 seconds.
Step 8: Seek help from professionals – if the phone won’t turn on nor charge and forced reboot didn’t work, it’s time you sought help from a technician for further troubleshooting.

S6 Edge won’t turn on but shows the charging sign after being dipped in water
Problem: My phone (Galaxy S6 Edge) got dipped in sea water yesterday. It lost all power at the exact second and wont turn on. I tried turning to on then. but nothing would work. After I came back home i tried to switch it on while charging it. My phone didn’t power on but the box thing showing the percentage of charging was seen. But still it wont turn on. Then I kept it in a bag of rice and waited 2-5 hours and took it back and tried again. But it still wont work. The LED light in the upper left corner would blink a lot in red. That’s all what I am getting. Please help me solve this. Is my phone a goner or can it be recovered? If I go to Samsung can they fix it? Or if its a goner. Can I get all my photos and videos back?
Related Problem: Hi, I just got into a swimming pool with my galaxy on, I noticed it in one or two minutes and it was already turned off and won’t turn on. I tried to turn it on but it didn’t work, now I’m looking for advice on what to do. Thanks for the help in advance.
Answer: The fact that your phone turned off as soon as it touched the water is a clear indication the water got into it and messed with its components. Your next move was a big blunder on your part; you shouldn’t have tried turning it on immediately as it often makes things worse. But there’s still hope though. Try putting it in a bowl of dry rice grain for a couple of days and then try turning it on again. If it still won’t, then don’t do anything and send it in.
Until such time that a Samsung tech has finished inspecting it, we wouldn’t know if you can still use it or recover your data. Maybe it could still be fixed, maybe it’s totally damaged.
S6 Edge got a black screen with blue light flashing
Problem: I have a black screen with a blue light flashing. I tried your reboot, holding volume and power. Then I got the start up screen, flashing on and off. Put it back on the charger. Nothing happened. T-Mobile store couldn’t fix it. Help please. I take very good care of my phone. Screen protector, case never dropped and never charged too soon or too long. Thank you!
Troubleshooting: I understand you took good care of your phone but what exactly happened to it why it couldn’t boot up? It could have been easier for us to diagnose what the problem really is if we knew what happened or what triggered the problem. But anyway, there’s a couple of things I want you to do for this issue.
The first one is forced reboot. I guess you already done it but I want you to try again and this time, press and hold the Volume Down and Power keys together for 10 to 15 seconds. If the problem was a minor system crash, then this procedure will fix it. Otherwise, try the second procedure, deleting the system cache:
Turn off the device.
Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
Press the Power key to select.
When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
Press the Power key to restart the device.
If it failed as well, then it’s time you sent the phone in for repair.
S6 Edge stopped charging, owner used third party chargers, extensively used the phone while on charge
Problem: My phone slowly, for the period of 2-3 days stopped charging at all. At the beginning was slow, then slower and so until now, when has 0% charge and doesn’t charge. I’ve been using different chargers (I know, my mistake) and the phone was in extreme mode of using – 7 hours a day of very high consumption, on charger. I know I can’t do anything, and it has no warranty. Where is the problem? Is it expensive. SHOULD I BUY AN iPHONE?
Suggestion: Yeah, buy an iPhone and use third-party chargers and use it for the entire day while on charge. If it stops charging as well, ask yourself if you should buy a Samsung (again), an LG, a Sony, or whatever it is you like.
As to your current phone, well, the battery might have been damaged. Send it in for repair and probably buy a new battery.
S6 Edge neither charges nor turns on, forced reboot didn’t work
Problem: No power when charging and does not switch on from power button. Totally dead. Tried to reboot with pressing volume down and power button for 15 sec plus. No response. Please advise. Thank you. It’s 64 bit octa core processor. 64gb.
Suggestion: I always ask this question: What happened to the phone prior to the problem? Why is it so difficult to include the possible cause of the problem?
There’s not much you can do about that. Just find a technician who’ll fix it for you because as you said, it won’t charge and won’t turn on. It’s probably damaged, too.
S6 Edge just turned itself off after taking photos and won’t turn back on
Problem: After taking a photograph my phone still had battery life +/- 30% then suddenly the phone just switched off and wont come back on. I connected it to the original Samsung charger and it does not even light up or show that I is charging. I connected it to the pc and still it does not connect. It is completely dead and none responsive. I cannot remove the battery due to the model. Please help!
Related Problem: Well I had about 15% battery life left and I was watching something and out of no where my phone turns off and I cannot turn it back on. I connected it to the charger but nothing happened I tried the reboot methods everything that is on this website and still nothing happens. I’m really frustrated because this phone cost a lot and it would be a big loss if I couldn’t fix it.
Troubleshooting: It’s probably just a system crash. I understand you cannot remove the battery as the S6 Edge doesn’t have a removable battery but you can still do the battery disconnect by pressing and holding both the Volume Down and the Power buttons for 10 to 15 seconds. If there’s still battery left and if the problem was just a minor system crash, the device should boot up successfully. Otherwise, it’s always good to see a technician about it.
