Samsung must be putting the final touches on its plan to launch their next flagship smartphone in the fourth generation line of Galaxy S models, the Samsung Galaxy S4 in a special event scheduled for March 14th – in two weeks – at the Times Square. Although nothing concrete regarding the specifications or features of Samsung’s new and most anticipated smartphone, there have been numerous rumors, most based on leaks, that paint an almost exact picture of what the phone will be like and what it will come with.
Color and storage variants
The newest rumor according to Sam Mobile blog says that the S4 will come in 6 variants: there will be two color variants (white and Black) and three capacities (16, 32 and 64 GB) internal memories. This means that the S4 will be available in these variants:
GT-I9500 Galaxy S IV 16 GB (Black)
GT-I9500 Galaxy S IV 16 GB (White)
GT-I9500 Galaxy S IV 32 GB (Black)
GT-I9500 Galaxy S IV 32 GB (White)
GT-I9500 Galaxy S IV 64 GB (Black)
GT-I9500 Galaxy S IV 64 GB (White)
These are the colors and variants that Samsung may launch the SIV with anyway, with more colors most likely to be released later on. It is not surprising considering that the SIV’s predecessor was launched with two colors too – White and Blue, with more colors added later on including Amber Brown, Garnet Red, Sapphire Black and Titanium Grey. I am not implying that the SIV will get similar colors but what we can be sure is that there will be more color additions later on – if you do not fancy the white and black, you may only need to wait a couple of months to get a wider selection of colors.
When it comes to storage, the S4, just like the SIV, comes in 16, 32 and 64 GB variants. This may be a little disappointing for those who expected the SIV to come with up to 128 GB onboard memory as it had been rumored a couple of months back that Samsung was going into mass production of the 128 GB chips. Nonetheless, the S4 will have a microSD card slot which will probably support memory expansion up to 64 GB.
Earlier today, I came across a post on PH Android that quoted a rumor on Taipei Times which mentioned that the SIV may launched with two different processors for different regions. Earlier rumors pointed at a universal S4 with a quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chipset with a clock speed of 1.9 GHz. The post on Taipei Times quotes an anonymous source to hint at an SIV with a new Exynos 5 Octa chipset for the European and global markets and the Snapdragon 600 for the devices targeting the US market. This would not be very surprising considering that Samsung launched an SIII with a dual core snapdragon processor for the US market and a quad core Exynos processor for the European and global markets.
There were other reports earlier though that Samsung could not be able to equip the SIV with the Octa core processor because they are power hungry and generate too much heat. The rumor may not be very realistic though but for now we know that the device to be launched in New York in two weeks will boasts of a Snapdragon 600 chipset.
Live Event at Times Square
Are you a big fan of Samsung or have been eagerly anticipating the launch of the S4? Samsung is inviting you to their live public launch event to be held at the Times Square, New York. The company has chosen this major venue for the live conference and fans and the general public are invited to participate in the live event. Those who cannot make it there can follow the conference live on YouTube live stream.
Samsung announced on Twitter that the Times Square venue would be open for all fans to take part in the fun. Initial assumptions are that the company has a lot planned for the night, starting at 7 pm local time.
