With Android 7.0 Nougat launching earlier this week for a handful of Nexus devices, many are looking to find out when their smartphones and tablets will be getting the update. But there are still a number of devices that haven’t yet been updated to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which launched last fall. Well, Samsung began pushing out Android 6.0 Marshmallow to the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 LTE in Germany earlier this week, and now the smaller model, the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 LTE is getting the update in the country as well. For those wondering, this is the tablet with the model number SM-T705. Obviously, since this is a full OS update, it’s going to be a rather large one. So it’s recommended that you download the update when not connected to LTE, unless you do have unlimited data.
The update brings the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 LTE to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, and of course brings along quite a few features for the ride. Of course the most popular feature is Doze. This allows your device to go into a deep sleep when it’s not being used for long periods of time. Going into deep sleep means the CPU is running slower, and the device is only checking for notifications every once in a while. With tablets, users have found that their battery life has nearly doubled. Which is pretty incredible, and definitely something that users of the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 LTE are going to absolutely love.
Other features in this update include Google Now on Tap, and plenty of other behind-the-scenes updates that will make the tablet run faster and smoother. On the Samsung side of things with Touchwiz, you’ll be getting a redesigned app drawer, along with bug fixes and stability improvements. Unfortunately, you won’t be getting the version of Touchwiz that launched on the Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge from earlier on in the year. If you own the Galaxy Tab S 84 LTE and live in Germany, you can head on into the Settings on your tablet. Then tap on About Tablet, System Updates and Check for Updates, and you should be able to pull down your update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
