Samsung Galaxy Xcover 4 Certified By FCC As SM-G390W
The Samsung Galaxy Xcover 4 bearing the model number SM-G390W was certified by the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on Friday. The name of this particular variant of Samsung’s new rugged Android handset indicates that it’s not the dual-SIM model that the South Korean phone maker promised to release in some territories, though the newly released documents pertaining to the device reveal little details about the smartphone.
Regardless, as the Seoul-based consumer electronics manufacturer already announced the Galaxy Xcover 4 in early March and the handset is now on sale in some European countries, all relevant information about the smartphone is already available. The Galaxy Xcover 4 is equipped with a 5-inch IPS LCD display panel with a resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels and is powered by the Exynos 7570 system-on-chip (SoC), Samsung’s in-house 64-bit piece of silicon with four cores clocked at 1.4GHz. The device sports 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage space that can be expanded via a microSD card slot by up to 256GB. The rear panel of the handset houses a 13-megapixel camera with an aperture of f/1.9, LED flash, and autofocus support, while the top bezel of the smartphone features a 5-megapixel sensor with an f/2.2 aperture. The Galaxy Xcover 4 is fueled by a 2,800mAh battery that isn’t removable, though the device boasts IP68 certification that guarantees it’s resistant to both dust and water. The South Korean smartphone maker previously confirmed that its new handset is launching with Android 7.0 Nougat and the company’s proprietary user interface. It’s currently unclear how long will existing and future owners of the Galaxy Xcover 4 have to wait for major Android software upgrades, though the phone will likely be updated with security patches on a regular basis.
The Galaxy Xcover 4 launched in select European countries last month, priced at €259, which translates to approximately $283. Given how the handset has now been certified by the FCC, it will likely be released in the United States in the near future, though it remains to be seen whether Samsung also has plans to bring it to other markets.
