Not long ago, we told you that the Samsung Ativ S has started shipping in the UK, with Expansys happily taking orders for the handset, asking £449.99. Unfortunately, it looks like that’s not the case. Even more, the Ativ S (which is Samsung’s first Windows Phone 8 device) might be delayed until January 2013 in Europe.
SamMobile (usually a reliable source) has it that Samsung will only start shipping the Ativ S in week 52 of 2012. That’s the very last week of the year, which means the smartphone could arrive in stores only starting January 2013. The website believes the reason for the delay is the fact that the Ativ S uses the same display as the Android-based Galaxy S III (4.8 inch, Super AMOLED HD), and Samsung can’t make enough of them – the S III is selling very well at the moment, as more than 30 million units have been purchased around the world.
The Samsung Ativ S sits next to Nokia’s Lumia 920 and HTC’s 8X at the top of Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 portfolio. Its features (besides the 4.8 inch HD screen) include a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, 8MP rear camera, 1.9MP font-facing camera, 1GB of RAM, 16GB / 32GB of internal memory, MicroSD card support, and a 2,300 mAh battery.
