For a few hours the entire blogosphere was rumbling. Samsung was going to release the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Galaxy S II on March 10 (that’s tomorrow, by the way). The announcement came from Samsung’s arm in the Philippines, so it had to be true? Right? Right?
Wrong. If you own a Samsung Galaxy S II, tomorrow’s going to be just another Saturday. Samsung itself (this time not a regional arm) said so on Twitter. The update’s not coming tomorrow. When it will be ready, it will be announced. And, we assume, on a much greater scale than Samsung Philippines can provide.
So that’s it. Back to the waiting game. It will be interesting to see which manufacturer will be fastest out of the gate with an ICS update for a smartphone. Samsung should be the ‘winner’, since it’s worked with Google on the Galaxy Nexus and as such supposedly had access to the code way earlier than its competitors. Yet here we are almost five months after that superphone was unveiled alongside the latest OS version, and we’re still waiting.
