This time it’s Samsung suing Apple, and not the other way round. The Korean company took to the courts in its native country, where it’s accusing Apple’s iPhone 4S and iPad 2 of infringing three of its patents. Apparently Samsung had previously decided not to pursue this lawsuit back when the iPhone 4S was being launched. Something changed its mind in the meantime though.
The cited patents involve methods of displaying data, the user interface, and text messaging. So since they don’t cover communications technologies essential to how a phone or tablet works (the so called FRAND patents), Samsung supposedly has a good shot at getting something from Apple. But you can never know how something like this pans out in the end.
With this new suit, the total number of legal spats between Apple and Samsung is now up to 30, covering 10 different countries. Happy happy lawyers over there!
