A few days ago, I reported about an unknown Samsung smartphone featuring Android 4.0 and a portrait style QWERTY keyboard. Earlier today, that device became official as Samsung announced it as the Galaxy Chat Android smartphone.
Spec-wise, it boasts Android 4.0, a 3 inch touch screen display, full QWERTY keyboard, a 2MP rear facing camera, GPS, WiFi, 3G connectivity. In addition, it comes with its own dedicated button to launch the ChatOn application. As you can see, Samsung is marketing this device as one that can handle quick and long messages efficiently. It is also being targeted to teenagers and those looking for a competitively priced low-range Android smartphone.
In terms of availability, it will initially be offered in Spain in July, with a European, Asian, and Middle East roll-out taking place in the near future. No word on exact pricing, but Samsung does tout it will be priced competitively.
