With all the information we’re getting about product launches and other announcements at the CES, the Galaxy S5 flagship has almost taken a back seat on our minds. And a new rumor now suggests that Samsung may not use an AMOLED panel in the upcoming flagship. According to this report from China, Samsung will use Sharp’s LTPS LCD panel instead of the standard Super AMOLED panel for the Galaxy S5 flagship.
It is said that Samsung is facing trouble in manufacturing the QHD (2560×1440) AMOLED panels in required quantities which is why it has turned to Japanese manufacturer Sharp, which is one of the leading display manufacturers along with LG and Samsung. Now these rumors aren’t coming from within Samsung, so we’ll take it with a pinch of salt until there’s solid proof to validate these claims. But knowing that Samsung owns a minor stake at Sharp, this agreement wouldn’t be a bad idea for Samsung. But fans of Samsung’s AMOLED panels could be disappointed if these rumors turn out to be true.
